Some of the comments on social media on the USAF demo team pages regarding no UK shows are just embarrassing. People need to get a grip and lose their attitude they entitled to get something every year
Agreed. The support from the USA has been exemplary over the last few years. Arguably better than the RAF in recent years.

People need to remember it is VERY rare RIAT appears on ANY USAF or Canadian demo release schedule at the ICAS Convention releases. These dates are provisional and subject to change. In fact the last few years RIAT hasn't appeared in the December release yet we got the F35 in 2018 (Announced around June) and the F16 in 2019 (announced quite late). There are also gaps in schedules around RIAT for some displays. (NOT to be taken as a guarantee)

In fact, the only time I remember USAF having RIAT on their December ICAS Convention schedule release was 2017 when the theme was USAF 70th.

Agreed, it’s a shame as all the USAF aircrews are always great guys when chatting to them at the shows.

To be honest I'm not to bothered if we don't get anything from CONUS in the flying display for 2020, I was more interested in seeing that in the Blue Angels 2021 show planner has a blank space over the RIAT weekend. However the Thunderbirds/ Blue Angels have been known to have a week or two off mid season. We shall see :)
If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...

Judging from the last few years we’ve always had an announcement of a participant on the first working Thursday of the year. I wonder if anything is revealed later?

Hopefully! - 10th Jan last year were the Harriers :)

AFAIK, FRIAT members haven't had any early 'insider' knowledge like last year with the Harriers, so who knows :S

Edit: Not today then!

I would have thought with the volatile state of the word's security at the moment it would be very hard to tie down any show participants at the present time.

The Air Tattoo was wonderful in 1991 after the 1st Gulf War, but you were probably too young to remember that one too. :P

Lots of things have changed since 1991, security is much tighter and air forces have all shrunk due to the general state of the world economy, also the Falklands conflict was a generally a two nation affair, not involving anybody else. If the remark about being to young to remember the Falklands, I can remember going to Greenham numerous times before everything decamped and moved to Fairford.

Alfie, nobody mentioned the Falklands and Mike's comment was aimed at James as per his quote.

I would argue that the world, in terms of instability, has been pretty consistent since 911 so I don't see why RIAT would be affected any more this year than any other since that happened

The only thing different you have Trump in the White House and Boris in No 10 neither are noted for being rational in their dealings with world affairs. I do apologize Talking about the Falklands when it was the 1st Gulf War that was mention, just put it down to a lapse of concentration brought on by my age.

I still don't see your point, Alfie. Security, if anything has been like this for years, now. Trump has been in since 2016 and that has, in no way, affected RIAT.

not sure how that affects display teams like the frecce and reds etc.
even if we end up at war with Iran, i can't imagine we are going to send 9 hawks and drop smoke on them.

air forces always have deployments and it hasn't really affected RIAT all that much in the past

Yet another enclosure to take up space on the crowd line....
As we look forward to our 50th anniversary in 2021, we're pleased to introduce 1971, our new hospitality upgrade that combines contemporary food and drink with hints of 1970s style. In response to high demand for our First Class Lounge (nearly sold out on Saturday) we have developed this new upgrade which is now available.
1971 occupies an existing structure in a prime position next to the Breitling Boutique on the main taxiway, set back from the crowdline.
What does 1971 include?
• All-day catering from 7.30am - see the menu here
• Inclusive bar plus a selection of cocktails
• Two-storey enclosure with viewing platform (please note this is not wheelchair accessible)
• Barista coffee all-day
• Guest Car Parking
• Private garden with unreserved outdoor lounge furniture
• Private, luxury toilets
• Adults only (ages 18+)
• WiFi
• Dedicated Hosts
• Complimentary Souvenir Programme
Find out more and book here!
