When 8 screws were better than 4 blow-jobs
When 8 screws were better than 4 blow-jobs
Hi Peeps
Got that title from a Shack crew-member at Colt's display in 1979
Did she make a racket or what

'Shack', 'Growler' or '10,000 rivets flying in close formation': you take your pick from those epithets
Hope they are worth a peek
Best regards as always

Still true today Brilliant post PB. Lovely aircraft with an unmistakable sound.
Re: When 8 screws were better than 4 blow-jobs
Shack - tastic. I sent for a Sotheby's auction programme which enabled me to attend the pre-sale viewing of the final 4 Shacks @ Waddington in '92. Probably the best tenner I ever spent. All excellent but #6 is the pick of the bunch.

Re: When 8 screws were better than 4 blow-jobs
Well done Patrick.
I regret never buying the T shirt at an Airfete: '8 screws' on the front and the rest on the back.
Still have most of my Judes Ferry Beer Festival Ts though some are a bit moth-eaten now, good days when Dave and his wife had the pub and most of his darts team were Honeywell or Pratt and Witney engineers at DET 4. I often wondered how the DET 4 patch came to be a dartboard with a dart in double 2.
Roger

I was lucky enough to go a flight in a Shack MR3 from Luqa as an air cadet in 1971. We even found a Soviet sub!
Re: When 8 screws were better than 4 blow-jobs
I'm sure I posted this in a Lossie Air Show topic, but worth repeating for those 'youngsters' who may have no idea of what we are talking about

Just great, I love the Shackleton, I can remember them well down at St. Mawgan, many years ago now,

Re: When 8 screws were better than 4 blow-jobs
Fantastic post , one of your best
I didn't see that many shacks but I do remember seeing my first one flying operationally from RAF Honington. It looked from a bygone age even in the 70s but a great sound track.

Wonderful Paddy!
During my time on the Kinloss Nimrod Line, I always stopped to watch these beasties when they used the runway.
Sometimes lumbering, not too fast, but strangely majestic, they were great.
Thanks for the flashbacks Paddy.

Lovely stuff Paddy, all about an aeroplane whose concept, was born with a man stretching to nearly 3 centuries ago. Roy Chadwick born in the late 1800s and father of the Lancaster...

Re: When 8 screws were better than 4 blow-jobs
On a visit to Gatwick Aviation Museum a few years ago I remember spending quite a bit of time on one of the frames that was there with a former Shackleton crew member ,certainly must have been an experience to operate with them. Another good post Paddy
