75 Years Market Garden

Post by bvdbogaert » Sat Sep 28, 2019 8:55 pm

This year commemorated the 75th anniversary of operation Market Garden. Loads of stuff to see and places to visit during the 9 day memorial ´week´. There where mass drops every day of the week on several dropzones, but the pinacle is (as every year) the saturday massdrop on the Ginkel heath near Arnhem.
With an attendance of over a 100 000 people the heath was nearly impossible to reach and I decided to park the car and walk about 3,5km through the woods which took me to the western side of the dropzone, opposite to the official public area. The extra time it took cost me the first drop, but I managed to be in time for the 2nd.

The US Marine Corps also attended with a KC-130J

A sky full of parachutes is Always an awesome sight, although the position I was in did not allow me to catch all of them in one picture.

The RAF cannot be missing this event. 1 Herc present, in '94 with the 50 year commemoration they sent 14.

The Germans were unable to jump as the wind was out of limits for the kind of parachutes they us. The jumpmaster had an easy day..

Walked back after the 2nd drop, did not wait for the air assault demo and 3rd drop. Maybe next time

Wonderful pictures, thanks for sharing.
Great tribute to those involved and the scale of it demonstrates the debt we owe to those brave people all those years ago

These pictures were taken at Eindhoven airbase not from the dropzone.
