Ample Strike B52 Support

Post by thevulcan » Tue Aug 20, 2019 9:20 pm

Hi does anyone know if any B52 support has arrived at Fairford yet I know two 747s and a C17 arrived from Whiteman presumably. But other then that I presume nothing has arrived yet. With Ample Stike due to begin in 8 days I would have thought support from Minot would have begun to arrive.

Suggest that 1 of those C-17's was unrelated to any bomber deployment.

And the 3 747s and other c17 came from whiteman AFB where there are no B52s only B2s

I only ask as the link below from the official Ample Strike page lists B52s as part of there flying contingent within the exercise.

They could well be on Global Power missions, hence no support at FFD.

The unit which normally participates in `Ample Strike` is the Reservists 307th BW at Barksdale. Might get a C-17/KC-10 in support but as far as most of the pax are concerned they will probably arrive/depart commercially as they have in the past. Spoke to Buff crew on a previous `Ample Strike` who told me that the crew which was replacing them were flying commercial via Heathrow and that they would be returning to the states the same way.

Jersey have secured a B-52 flypast on the 11th, would be safe to assume they'll still be coming!

I heard at Mildenhall that they have found cracks in one of the engine pylons on the Mildenhall Buff and that all aircraft are to be inspected.

I can't find anything on the web to corroborate this and wonder if anyone else has noticed if indeed any B-52 have been flying recently?

Several B52's with Skull and Doom callsigns have been noted on ADSB the previous week.
But perhaps a limited number of aircraft are involved?

There was definately a 'new' pylon next to the B52 still in a crate two weeks ago, last week pylon was on the ground beside the crate.

60-0009 at Mildenhall is having 2 pylons changed port inner and starboard outer,
starboard outer already replaced and no8 engine refitted.

Being held in the Czech Republic until mid September. No idea how many B-52s but, they're the only asset operating from the UK.
