Enquiry re - US based Canberras
This is probably a long shot but I'm constantly impressed by the extent of members knowledge so here goes. Two Canberras (WT327 + XH567) were exported to the USA in the '90s registered as N30UP + N40UP and operated by Air Platforms Inc of Lakeport Cal. but more recently by High Altitude Mapping Missions of Spokane, Wa. Does anyone know for definite if they are still operating? I've surfed the web for the answer w/out success as all sites found contain old info.
Re: Enquiry re - US based Canberras
Looking at AviationDB....a data base site, both aircraft were deregistered from US register on 14-01-19 and 16-01-19 respectively!.....No knowledge of their location/status given

No problem - at least none relevant to this forum
Re: Enquiry re - US based Canberras
Is it the perspective of the pic or is that runway a little short for canberra ops? Thinking of the engine failure late in the take off run situation particularly.

Re: Enquiry re - US based Canberras
Don't forget that till the advent of the V-Bombers most RAF Airfields only had runways at 6,000ft length.
If you ever went to Binbrook when it was open and sat at Crash Gate 2 it was once a round that went across to the one that went past the Main entrance. Likewise Coningsby Crash gate 1 after passing the main gate was the old Boston road. The end of the runway was close to the last HAS is at the New York end from memory.
My point being Canberras operated from them both. Binbrook was only lengthened for Fighter Ops

Re: Enquiry re - US based Canberras
just had a measure up as best I could, that runway looks to be only 3,000 odd feet, definitely not 6,000. Slightly related, when I was a lad I asked an RAF pilot why the Lightning had to operate out of Manston for its display at Biggin Hill. He said it was because Biggin's runway was 6,000 feet end to end, the Lightning had to have 9,000 in case the brake chute failed.

According to Wiki its 3597ft long, not a bad measurement.Sparts99 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2019 12:36 pmjust had a measure up as best I could, that runway looks to be only 3,000 odd feet, definitely not 6,000.
