Naval assets in the Indian Ocean at present?

Post by zero_gravity » Thu Jul 11, 2019 2:15 pm

Sort of OT this , but may not turn out to be......

Does anyone know what Naval assets are presently in the Indian Ocean south of Madagascar ?

I ask as there seems to be something going on a little later today possibly involving the attempted destruction of re-entering space debris.

Nav Warns were put out yesterday relating to space debris coming down in the Indian ocean.
A little later a further warning was issued , this time announcing a missile launch from an area which coincided with the northern end of the re-entry track. Not only that but the same time window as the re-entry was quoted.

This seems rather unusual and could constitute an ASAT exercise.

There is no indication about which agency issued the warning .

A little later a NOTAM for the same area/time appeared on the FAA site.

Technically I suppose that if the object has or is in the process of re-entering it could be classed as a sub orbital intercept , rather than an ASAT.

Either way , something seems to be on the cards for 1600-1900 GMT today.

These are the NAV Warns in graphic format

Coincidentally and probably not related , thousands of miles to the north , at the same time , there could be a rocket event from the Barents sea

So , who has Navy vessels in the area , south of Madagascar ? :ninja:

Might be worth monitoring long range radio chatter during the three hour slot.
I have certainly heard Indian Navy P8s in that area in the past.

Nothing as yet , but if it is a real event then it could be some time before any news leaks out.
Although its taking place in the Indian Ocean there is no indication who is launching the missile[s]. Could be one of a number of Agencies.

Thanks Mark

Apparently IndSpaceEx is not going to be held until the end of the month.

Just to confuse things at the same time as the Indian Ocean Notice to Mariners , there was a rocket launch warning issued in the Barents Sea area.
Of note was the same time window as posted in the IOR one[s]
This image shows the Barents notification as issued over satellite and inlaid is a notice from the Russian Navy site which delineates an area slightly further east , but again , the same time window.

Are these all related ?
