Saturdays are normally sold out well in advance most years, would make sense to put the stronger display on Sunday as this is normally never sold out.
This way a better chance of selling out both days. It's not rocket science.

Just do away with Friday and just stick to arrivals and PDA (if necessary). Show days sat/sun only. It always worked that way.
I think thats a very sensible suggestion Pete.

I'm sure there was a reason they had to make friday a public day, something to do with insurance and/or viewing practices/validations as actual displays IIRC.

I think you are about right with your interpretation. The most recent iterations of CAP 403 / MAA 2335 provide more guidance on the FDD responsibilities including the DA holder's fitness & attitude! This combined with the fact that MACH pass-holders are on the field Friday whilst practice & non-standard manoeuvres (flight demonstrations?) are happening makes this an Air Display under the plethora of Regulations. Therefore it makes good financial business sense to extend the day to a public event to recoup some of the cost otherwise incurred anyway! My only gripe is that irrespective of the 'Good Cause' argument, it's unrealistic to expect the average Punter to pay the same price on a work-day Friday when he can see twice as much Saturday for the same money! That's just human nature?
Add to that the alleged unravelling of the Sunday show into a sub-standard version of Saturday & you have the best recipe for 'Joe Public' feeling robbed & not returning next time. Ticket-price adjustments must be a factor in future when such a different experience is knowingly being offered. Surely this must be evident to the business-heads at DBH? :O

So only 1 day to go after today and my RIAT 2019 adventure begins  .....Does anyone think we will get a late update this week? Or even a surprise like the Israeli Hercules in 2017?

Cannot wait to get there and enjoy a week of aircraft and hopefully some nice weather  :thumb:

You may get a late update, it has been known before. But most of all enjoy the week ahead. I'm just doing the Saturday.

Cheers

From the "Latest updates" page on the RIAT 2019 website, you'd think that the people in DBH that are being paid to do a marketing job could at least get the year correct!

"Stay up-to-date with all the developments!

Make sure you're up-to-date with all the exciting news and chatter regarding plans for the 2018 Air Tattoo
."
Think someone from DBH must have read your post mate!!!
Its now been changed to 2019 :P

If you accept that the two events at North Weald in the early 70's were the birth place of IAT and RIAT, then you must remember that a Britannia Airways Boeing 737 was one of the "highlights" of the show in 1972 and a Trans Meridian CL-44 was on static display. So going back to square one would men more "civil junk" than now. Time for RIAT to take a break and re-assess where it wants to go. The cow cannot be for ever milking. :ninja:

Entirely agree that RIAT has lost its way, perhaps it should become a bi-annual show as it once had been and feature a much stronger central theme. This year there are fewer funds across the Globe, and Countries like France are heavily committed to conflicts like Mali, and they had Bastille Day last Sunday, what a line up they assembled for that.
Yes, full marks to RIAT but...

STRONGLY disagree on RIAT becoming Bi-Annual. Would be a nightmare to have to wait two years instead of just one. Already bad enough that it’s been a week or so longer to this one.
