The SATER exercise 02-19 took place on 18 June, between the Eastern Riviera of the Ligurian Apennines and the lower Apennines of Emilia.
This is a training activity that involves Search and Rescue simulations (SAR Search and Rescue) in collaboration with CNSAS (National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps) to refine the integration and operation between the various components called to compete. 'exercise, interforce and inter-departmental, is part of a training program of the Italian Air Force, aimed at verifying the ability to perform air rescue operations in the event of air accidents in a terrestrial environment. The SATER 02-19 differs from the previous editions in that the envisaged scenario sees the search for injured hikers, also simulating the recovery of people trapped in the hypogean area (caves) with intervention of the CNSAS speleological team. The Air Operations Command (COA) of the Poggio Renatico Air Force (FE) coordinated the search operations all day and night with the special night vision goggles NVG (Night Vision Goggles). For the coordination of SAR operations a command and control station will be set up, called PBA (Advanced Base Station) at the Aircraft Base Command of the Port Authority Corps of Sarzana (SP), which together with the other branches of the Coast Guard guarantees a continuous alarm service for research and rescue at sea and in the coastal environment. In addition to the Air Force, which participated with an HH-139 helicopter of the 15th Wing of the 85th CSAR Center based in Pratica di Mare (RM), the Coast Guard with 1 AW139 of the Air Base took part in the exercise. Sarzana (SP), the Finance Police with 1 AB412 of the Pisa Air Section and 1 NH500 of the Genoa Air Section, the latter supported on the ground by an Alpine Rescue team of the Guardia di Finanza. The coordination of the entire operation of terrestrial research will be entrusted to the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps (CNSAS) of the Liguria region, which will provide the following resources for ground-based research, 10 Radiomobile Units for planning and coordination, 10 Teams composed of Technicians, Health Personnel and Canine.
