Viewfinder blur d7200

Post by luke28 » Tue Jun 11, 2019 12:34 pm

Alright chaps, dropped my camera on Sunday at home before heading to Cosford. Done a quick few test shots in the back garden to see what the damage was, everything through the viewfinder looks blurry. it locks on and the autofocus works (but it still looks blurry through the viewfinder), it takes the picture and it looks fine on the screen and on the laptop, the only issue is when I look through the viewfinder.

Couple of questions.

Does anybody know what the damage is from the fall?
Is it an easy fix?
How much am I looking at to get it fixed?
I used it all day at Cosford with good results but will I cause long term damage using it in its current state?

Many thanks

Have you checked the dioptre control wheel on the viewfinder?

I don't know anything about the D7200, but if it has an inter-changeable focussing screen please make sure that it's correctly seated in the mount & clipped in place.
Failing that it's probably a misaligned prism, in any case you need a proper camera repairer to advise on work required & cost. HTH?

Hi Supra.

We've all dropped or banged our cameras at some point, unfortunately modern digital cameras are a little more prone to issues due to their reliance
on electronic wizardry, composite construction and tighter tolerances.

Although I am a Canon user, I would suggest getting in touch with H. Lehmann in Stoke who are a registered Canon and Nikon Service Centre, I have
used them for cleaning, servicing and calibration of my gear over the years and they are really good.

They offer all sorts of solutions and feel sure they will be able to help get your viewfinder sorted for a reasonable fee and before you need it for RIAT!

Hope that helps.

Good Repairer recommendation. They will advise costs to repair & then you have the option. As OP. says.... image taken is in focus, but in viewfinder it's blurred. Therefore IMO it's a Focus screen/ prism or possibly mirror issue that's causing the view distortion? Lehmanns will find that soon enough.
