More Air Fete Memories from 1992

Post by F3 » Sat Jun 01, 2019 4:45 pm

Whilst searching through some Tucano negs I came across a strip from the '92 Air Fete. Only 4 subjects but maybe of interest. This was the last appearance of an RAF F-4 in the static and I'm sure you'll agree that it was a shame about the utilitarian engine covers. The F-18 was from the USS Saratoga.

Nice Mike from a great show - think this was the first F-117 appearance at the show. Started on mine in earnest from this show last night - also had a C-2 at the show which brought in the Six Fleet band - they played in one of the hangars at the show and were pretty good

Great days and thanks for posting

Yes - you're right. It was a big deal being the 1st. F-117 appearance over here and the pic of its arrival made the cover of AFM as recall (it was flown by an RAF pilot on exchange). Also remember the Greyhound as it was the only time I ever saw one.

Great pics, I have a very similar set, although oddly none of the F-117, which seems strange as it was such a rarity back then?

Odd indeed Stuart, as it was the 1st. public appearance of the type in the UK and consequently sparked much interest. Everyone immediately made a bee line for it on arrival. Maybe you were unable to fight yr way through' the crowd or maybe never saw it through' the crowd. Plenty more interesting stuff tho' - like the C-2 which was nt mobbed.

Just done a bit more research and it appears I had already seen (and photographed) the same aircraft at Paris the year before, so presumbaly I didn't bother with the "scrum" at Mildenhall...

Thought there must be a logical explanation. That's what I call planning ahead.
