Re: Belgian and Norwegian D-Day F16’s
As I've posted elsewhere, If memory serves correctly did the RAF not dress a Typhoon in D-Day Stripe Markings back in 2014? For the display team or something, bit of a shame they couldn't have kept it on until now or revive it?
Re: Belgian and Norwegian D-Day F16’s
I'd expect BAF 349 Sqn might also get a special, they took part on D Day. They squadron has just unveiled the first of their commemorative patches too
Had a lecture with SERCO from Marham in February. They produce the decal for most the RAF special tails. At that point no plans for any D Day jets

Re: Belgian and Norwegian D-Day F16’s
Absolute joke if we don’t have any jets painted up to mark the anniversary, saying that we celebrated 100 year anniversary with a few stickers

Who knows - maybe the RAF will surprise us all and reveal a beautifully painted Typhoon.....
Or at least they might nip back down to Halfords and get a few more stickers to put on anyway!

Re: Belgian and Norwegian D-Day F16’s
They did indeed for the 70th Anniversary of D-Day, but in all fairness though you couldn’t expect them to keep the scheme for 5yrs until now.
It’s going to be extremely embarrassing for the RAF and the UK if we don’t do anything, especially after seeing the two F-16’s, the three Lakenheath jets and if rumours are true of USAF F-16’s joining the party as well.

I think I've seen Ramstein have done a C130 and Mildenhall have definitely done a KC135 as well. The RAF really need to hurry up if they are going to do anything. Maybe the BBMF Dakota and one of ths Spitfires is all we will get.

Belgian C-130 also marked up
The origin of Belgian Air Force 15th Wing Air Transport - Belgian Air Force lies with the Royal Air Force (UK).
In October 1944, more than 40 Belgian pilots were stationed at Crosby-on-Eden (Welford) where they were retrained on DC-3 Dakota. After their training period, they were re-assigned to the 187 and 525 Squadrons at Membury to gradually replace the British crews. At the end of 1944, the 525 Squadron consisted exclusively of Belgian crews. In April 1946 the 525 squadron moved to Belgium at Evere Airfield. The same year the "Belgian Flight of Metropolitan Communication Squadron" from Hendon was also stationed at Evere.
These two units merged together and were renamed the 169 Wing with two squadrons. The 366 Sqn, equipped with five DC-3 Dakotas and the 367 Sqn, equipped with nine Avro Anson, six Airspeed Oxford, four DeHavilland Dominie and three Percival Proctor.
On February 1, 1948, the 169 Wing is renamed 15 Vervoers- en Verbindingswing. The 366 and 367 squadrons become the 20 and 21 Squadron respectively. Their emblem is a Sioux Indian, on a blue or red background. "Tenacity" (steadfastness) becomes the slogan.
In honor of this ‘Belgian’ RAF 525 Sqn, the 15th Wing’s Paint Shop re-painted one of their C-130 Hercules tactical transport planes. This special livery consists of the highly visible ‘Invasion stripes’ which are a tribute to all the allied transport crews who gave all they got during Operation Overlord and further on during the invasion of Europe.

Re: D Day 75th Anniversary Schemes
The RAF already have a fitting tribute to WWII and that’s the BBMF.
Maybe we don’t appreciate it as much as we should but it’s a magnificent setup and the Dakota and other aircraft will be playing a full part in the 75th anniversary I’m sure.
I think it would be quite sad if all the RAF did was put a few stripes on a Typhoon to be honest.

Re: D Day 75th Anniversary Schemes
And the Dakota already sports D-Day stripes so no need for anything else it is a more fitting tribute than putting them on a Typhoon.
