Crashed @ Duxford in late '90's as I recall PB with the loss of the pilot Hoof Proudfoot at one of the few DX shows I missed . Great coverage to remember her by tho'. By then she had a different colour scheme and identity 'California Cutie' or something. I'll dig out a pic.

I had NO idea that the P38 in my shots was the 'frame that sadly crashed at DX

We would normally have been on or near the 'tank bank' but were at the eastern end and had an unrestricted view of the awful event

Like the Vintage Pair crash at MH, not something you forget

Hi, Patrick. Haven't been posting for a while! Computer probs. Notice new user name. You and I must have been standing in much the same place on that awful day. I was talking the next year to Steve Hinton at Oshkosh about this seemingly unexplained event, and he said that Hoof was red with rage about the flight schedule going completely to pot as a result of the late arrival of the BBMF. Hoof was Chief Pilot for the Fighter Collection at the time, and had an awful lot on his plate. Steve said that he pulled his first roll a little too early, and decided to put another one in, sadly without the dynamics necessary for it. Mr. Hinton said that flying aerobatics when you are red with rage is NOT a good thing to do........!. Hope you and Ann are well. Regards, John. P.S. I notice a lack of Duxford Bimbles from Bryan Marshall{Pen Pusher}. I hope he is O.K. It's not like him not to post info, and I wondered if anyone has any info on whether or not he is O.K???.

Very interesting what Steve Hinton told you. Hoof was such an experienced display pilot that it came as a great surprise when I saw the crash on the evening news. Nice to have an explanation of the cause after all these years. That advice also applies to driving.

Think you're correct on the 109 and I seem to recall it was a supposed 'big-wig' in the TAG who was at the stick and made the rick
