Tornado final weeks info

Post by Gary » Thu Feb 21, 2019 9:46 pm

This week Tornado aircraft from RAF Marham have taken to the skies across the UK to say farewell to places of significance throughout the history of Tornado. Engineering personnel from across IX(B) Sqn and 31 Sqn, supported by members of the Whole Force at RAF Marham ensured that three aircraft were serviceable for these sorties each day. We would like to thank the public for turning up in your thousands at locations across the country to say your own farewell.

We have a few more weeks of flying ahead before the official retirement date. We will now be looking ahead to next Thursday, 28th February, when we plan to fly up to 9 Tornados over RAF Marham and RAFC Cranwell. The last planned flight of a Tornado will take place on 14th March at the Disbandment Parade of IX(B) Sqn and 31 Sqn. Further details will be issued on our social media pages at a later date.

Thanks again to you all, the support we have received over the last two weeks has been incredible #FarewellTornado #FINale #ThanksTonka

Hi Gary
Not quite sure what this thread is for? You say ''post all post UK tour info in this thread'' but the UK tour is already done and over with. Just looking for clarification, no dig or criticism intended :thumb:
Cheers

Good point herc15,on the 14th does anyone know of it will feature all the remaining Tonkas, a singleton, or whatever servicable aircraft 9 squadron has at the time?

I read somewhere that 14 March would be just a single Tornado. Happy to be corrected though.

I'll enjoy them till the bitter end. Have heard 'm A/A on 242.200, 246.025 and 343.175 recently. Love the sound of their awsome radios   :thumb:

Any idea what time the 9 ship on the 28th may be happening ? Morning or afternoon ?

Will be travelling from the Northolt area, so have part of the M25 to traverse.

cheers

Nothing's been officially released yet, hopefully tomorrow will all become clearer. Keep watching this thread. I am travelling further and a longer journey on the M25 so a mega early start for me again!!

If it was me 7 - 8 am sounds about right assuming the same field that was available on the 19-21 Feb is open for parking again. You would expect a VIP chopper to arrive in the morning plus a couple of F-35 to launch before lunch maybe.

Get a radio on - it will be the last time to hear 9+ Tornados including spares check in on ground - Tornado 01 - Tornado 15 :)

Looking forward to it, we are making the trip from Aberdeen. We were at Lossiemouth last Thursday and wouldn't want too miss this.
Cheers.

Just checked a forecast again, winds are now favoring 01 for Thursday.

Still not seen anything official as yet.
