Re: Machloop ban
It is pretty sad all the bad feeling this is causing. It appears the pilot concerned made an error but surely that could have been dealt with by a good 'old fashioned dressing down' or 'toilet cleaning duty' as per old days. As for the poster I can't really believe she did anything wrong by posting at all. On the other hand 'he' who posted that photo of the crashed Red Arrow that resulted in a fatality to aircrew ( and was pretty obviously such) should have handed those photos in and definitely should not have posted it.
Things change over time. I guess low flying as we knew it is going to be at an end as in most cases it is no longer required. I think back to the very early 80s when standing at the top of the old quarry ( about 80-100 feet ) on the way up to Glen Doll during Scout abseiling with my father and looking down on a Buccaneer! Now that was low flying!
Perhaps we should just be glad we got to witness it all.

Re: Machloop ban
Well put Chris!!! I have lived in the proper part of LFA7 all my life , not the circus that has been the Loop ! Sadly as you say low fly training is a thing of the past! When the Mighty Fin retires ,it will be the end! I have a few friends who are Tornado pilots , not just in the UK but overseas and they say retiring Tornado is a big mistake!

Agreed.Reptile 1 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 04, 2019 1:01 pmIt's all a knee jerk reaction IMO to a 'near miss' back in December, during the Airprox review it was decided by DCom Ops to halt all Low Level flying until the GR4 OSD on safety grounds, nothing to do with fatigue of the Jet or no longer a need to train Low Level.

Re: Machloop ban
They would, wouldn't they! I know of good number of 767 pilots who say the same about a recent retirement of 767's from a UK fleet. Ultimately it's a case of practicality and reality vs. aspirations. I guess the Engineering, planning, etc. etc. people would be entitled to their view too.Blackcat1 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 04, 2019 7:33 pmWell put Chris!!! The key thing to remember is this is 2019 ( not the early 1980s ) - think onward going future fleet sustainability
Re: Machloop ban

Breathing deeply.......... and out......... That made me laugh! yeh personally I'll miss it BIG time, it's been a huge part of my adult aviation life, and I do think that a proper deep strike/interdictor platform with TFR etc. will be missed, where the USAF have the F15E the RAF don't have such a platform now, although the Typhoon is well armed and equipped.

Yes I agree, it's the last of the classics, it's a shame to see her go

Re: Machloop ban
We all turn to dust. Younger members will no doubt miss the classic Typhoon, Phenom, Atlas and F-35 when they go too. Tick tock.
Re: Machloop ban
I started my working life making components for the MRCA/Tornado and I retired before they will. So that puts thing in perspective. and that also proves they must have been well made.

Re: Machloop ban
I wouldn’t call the Tornado a classic, a workhorse that’s served well and did the job when required yes, but not a classic. Mind you I did work along side Buccaneers, Hunters, Nimrod and the Shackleton.
Maybe we don’t have the F15E, but we do have DM Brimstone, something only the US can dream about .

Re: Machloop ban
Classic for me!!! for someone brought up with her, the oldest aircraft in the RAF then compared to Typhoon etc! Don't be pedantic!!

Seen Lightning, Vulcan, Victor, Buccaneer, Phantom, Tornado F3, Jaguar, Harrier , Dominie, VC10 go so for "Me" Tornado GR is the last of the classics!

Plus Canberra and JP from similar era as well as other smaller types such as Bulldog. Someone of a few more years life experience will probably come in several more from a bit further back.
