Believe it's being reviewed in January.

Yep reviewed in early January. It's just the RAF that's banned . The Mallwyd/Dinas to Bwlch y Groes route has still been used by a few RAF flights. There's been a few Eagles through the loop & Navy Hawk T1s.

Spent 4 days in the Loop during the summer a few years ago & didn't see anything until the last day when 2 Tornados went through at 5pm. The weather was great every day! I guess a lot of crews took summer leave then or went elsewhere.

Would appreciate why the RAF have put a ban on?

Someone posted a video on twitter of a Typhoon going through Cad a tad too low before going vertical. Haven't seen the video myself though but I think there are a couple of other reasons also.

Thanks Gareth for the information. Is it likely to be lifted in the near future?

Just watched the video-fantastic footage, she was in the right place at the right time but the poor girl is getting so much trolling for posting it,on the one hand i suppose it would have been better not to have posted it and got the pilot into trouble but on the other hand he knew the rules and broke them, however i'm sure his CO has had a quiet word in his shell like and he won't be doing that again!.

Rumours are he's not in the RAF anymore! But that's a rumour. Us regulars know the rules about posting things like that, being old school I have seen things in the loop and other parts of LFA7 a damn sight worse than that, but she knew the rules, and was asked to take it down on a few forums/pages but she didn't. The Loop has become too popular over the years, with a lot more areas of LFA7 reduced in traffic.

Thanks for the link, I've seen more rule breakers than that over the years! But in the days where Facebook & Twitter wasn't around

I have watched the clip and seen some of the comments. It is easy to see how the pilot has broken the rules, but what "rules" have been broken by the video poster and what are they meant to cover/guard against?

Serious question so no flaming please.

At the moment I see it as a loss for enthusiasts and photographers but if the same standards of flying had continued or become even more risky, the possible outcome would have been far worse.

No rules have been broken by the poster, it wasn't posted on FC it was posted on Twitter and no rules on what you post other than pornography apply.

It's a LFA/MTA , push it to the limits, its what makes the RAF the best of the best.

She wasn't the one doing what very much looked like illegal low flying. :)

It's what also kills pilots very quickly if it goes wrong.

I don't think the cogs would have moved that quickly (unless they were in the process of leaving anyway)! :)

Agree with Colin. Flying has to be very disciplined, and there is no room for a cavalier attitude to safety these days.
