There are still "many" issues to iron out with the T6's from basic survival equipment (the ejector seat harness has already been mentioned but other bits are not up to the required standards to operate around the UK coast) to the fact that they flying sylabous has yet to be agreed and certified, which is proving problematic.

If this is the case, then how on Earth could a contract be contested, won and ultimately signed off :S

Trouble is they are also now getting a very capable platform, avionics that can do a lot more than the Tucano, verging only nearly as good as the Hawk T2 in terms of systems. The ability to simulate weapon loads, similar to the T2, however the T6 does not have a synthetic radar. A lot of these thing can now be done on the T6, when traditional they would have been done on the old TWC/19Sqn or 2 part of the IV Sqn course. Its a matter of striking a balance between what the aircraft do, with the expected ability of the students at BFJT stage and if anything could been introduced early from Hawk T2.

I can see why it's going to take a while to get it all set up, among all the other aircraft and survival kit issues etc.

Only trouble nickowen, all the aircraft back then were using similar/same RAF issue survival kit that has been used for years. Where as now they are introducing new US kit (However, some US kit used by RAF C-17 fleet at Brize, helmets etc), into the mix, plus a new style of ejector seat/survival kit setup the RAF has never used before.

It'll take abit more time to setup but hopefully they'll get the right balance for both the BFJT and AFJT.

Only we could cock up a proven design.

And spending a day at Linton with Tucs buzzing around I still fail to see how just 10 airframes will do the job.

10 they will now mostly likely struggle with, they are already already looking at maybe additional aircraft. The pilot training figures used in the MFTS requires were taken from the 2010 SDSR. Following the 2015 pilot training figures have increased, with the demand for new pilots, so hopefully we'll get some more!
