Flickr - Changes to Terms of Use
Just went to log on to my Flickr account to find an announcement that free accounts will be limited to 1k images from 5 January 2019. After 5 February 2019, free accounts with more than 1k images will have them "actively managed" to bring the count down to 1k - starting with the oldest first.

Re: Flickr - Changes to Terms of Use
Just seen this as well, which is a massive disappointment. I have over 3k in photos on there, but I don't think I can justify a massive leap to $50 a year for it!
I currently already backup my photos to OneDrive which is great, and having Amazon Prime, this allows me have unlimited storage including RAW files.
It's a shame as Flickr has a good sharing environment. Does anyone know of any other similar sites? Plus, Flickr is so much easier to use for here! 1000 isn't much.

There is a discount at the moment Jimmy - think I saw $2.99 per month paid annually which is $35.88 - sub £30

Ah okay, that may be worth doing then for a year. Will look into that.

Re: Flickr - Changes to Terms of Use
I had a feeling that this would happen when it was announced earlier this year that flicker had been taken over .Money grabbing yanks !.

My pro account has cost $24.95 a year for the last 3 years, is it really $50 for new customers?

Re: Flickr - Changes to Terms of Use
Yes it is - and existing ones too. But then you could have proven that to yourself by doing what I did - going to their website to see.

Log into your account it should say. When you renew it will be $50. For current free users you get 30% off.
Re: Flickr - Changes to Terms of Use
to be fair i aways thought the free TB was massively generous. Ive never had pro but i do use Flickr a ot so im going to give pro a chance, particularly with over 4k photos on there.

End of the day, it is a social media...I most probably will suck up and pay for it.
Re: Flickr - Changes to Terms of Use
Interestingly I've been looking in to cloud storage for photos and for the number of RAW files I want to store, $50 a month was on the cheap end. I'd have no issues paying $50 a year to host my edited photos; I have nearly 7000 and counting on there now!
Re: Flickr - Changes to Terms of Use
Sign of the times I suppose. Folk getting a snot on about losing a freebie. Buy yourself a couple of external hard drives and store your pics there. They will pay for themselves after a while.

Re: Flickr - Changes to Terms of Use
It isn't about storing photos, Flickr is a host site that enables the posting of images on forums such as this. I think this very small quantity limit on a free account will see fewer postings on here and many other sites like it. Anyone using Flickr as a place to store photos without a hard drive or two is asking for trouble anyway.

Not about getting a 'snot on' at all. Also, it's bad that they haven't publicly advertised this very well (You have to manually find out yourself) and the fact they will automatically delete your photos.

Re: Flickr - Changes to Terms of Use
Exactly, a form of Social Media. And as you say, expect a downfall in posts, as tbh, other than Flickr I don't know any other sites/ways to upload photographs here.bizfreeq wrote: ↑Fri Nov 02, 2018 1:56 pmIt isn't about storing photos, Flickr is a host site that enables the posting of images on forums such as this.
