Re: Tutor miss hap
Well done to the pilot for not causing any obvious damage, nothing more than an unfortunate mishap though.

Re: Tutor miss hap
From the angle of the prop blades, it looks as if the engine MIGHT have been still producing some power, otherwise it would be fully feathered. Some lovely big fields in this part of the world, and looks like he got a good one. Practising engine failures keep drivers on their toes!!.
Re: Tutor miss hap
Single engine aircraft with feathering propeller?
Re: Tutor miss hap
Well, yes, particularly turbo-prop, which this isn't of course. Tutor certainly has a variable pitch prop, but I agree. Blade pitch can therefore be altered, but not fully feathered AFAIK. or can it???
Re: Tutor miss hap
Look's like the fleet is now grounded until further notice.

Re: Tutor miss hap
It can't be fully feathered. The actual range of movement between coarse and fine pitch on the Tutor's constant speed prop is not very much at all, so you'd do well to tell from a picture!

These things do like landing in fields, perhaps its time to get the good old Chipmunk back?
Growing old disgracefully
Re: Tutor miss hap
Thankyou Colin. From the picture it is rather difficult to tell what position the prop lever is inside the aircraft. I bow to your superior knowledge!!.

I wonder if the Burghley Estate will claim the salvage rights?
CANONs carried by an ARMOURER!

Re: Tutor miss hap
Not sure if intended (mishap rather than "miss hap")) or incidental, but surely this aircraft should carry the nose art "Miss Hap" from now on in?!
Re: Tutor miss hap
Grounding was lifted before/by the end of last week.
Woodvale a/c were doing circuits at Warton Monday and yesterday

Tutors?
Dont know where the other Herons are as they have moved on, but G-BVHE is still with Tayside Flying Club at Dundee.
Arabest,
Geoff.
Re: Tutor miss hap
The Tutors are G115E's and the Herons are G115D's, all replaced by the Tutors a long time ago and sold onto the civilian operators
