ZM335 and ZM336

Post by AIJerry » Thu Aug 09, 2018 11:32 am

Both of the above Phenoms are still parked by Crash Gate Five having been there for a while. There is no (to me) obvious damage to either. Various panels have been taped up and an Affinity truck was present and people were going in and out of 336. Jerry

The RAF isn't keen on telling Joe Public what's going on. These two collided in the practice for the Queen's flypast IIRC. It took me three months of FOIA requests for them to admit ZH873 had been lost somewhere hot and sandy a year ago and then they'd only admit it had been written off. No way were they going to say how, where or when. "not in the national interest.'

I didn't think they were involved in the 100 Year flypast.

Just gone back through my log when I was at Waddington on 3rd July this year.

335/336 were up as Camel 1/2.

Camel one called a mayday after vibrations in the cockpit. There was some confusion between the tower and the jets as to which a/c had the mayday, at one point they thought both had called PAN.

I had a screen shot of ads at the time, and they weren't close together at the time of the mayday call.

Has either been airborne since?

According to my logs, ZM335 & 336 haven't flown since the 3rd July.
They've both had their electronic system started up several times since (had hits from their transponders), last time being 1st August for both aircraft.

There's a post on PPRuNe that suggests that their wingtips touched whilst practising formation flying at low level at the beginning of July.

As far as I know they are, not heard anything otherwise.

The lane to the crash gate is very bumpy, suggest parking at the layby and walking the rest of the way

Understand from a 'good source' that there is a serious structural integrity issue, resulting in the severely damaged one.
A bump to the cockpit area was mentioned in passing...
Allegedly - if indeed one is Cat5 that's a set of decent spares provision; and yes, we did 'rob or cannibalize' Cat4/5

FWIW ... I'm lead to believe both jets are CAT3 at this stage ... and if I remember correctly there are a HUGE amount of hoops to get them declared as Cat4 or 5.

I'd also add that I doubt very much if a Board of Enquiry has completed its findings yet if the accident only happen at the beginning of July. From my experience they usually go on for months.

Hi

I should be at Waddo for the Italians this Thursday 30/8 ( haven't been for quite a few years - hope that doesn't make me a leech :) ) Is crash gate 5 the one at the most southerly end where that E-3 frame was decomposing?
