I take it the awards are voted on by a panel from RIAT. After attending from Thursday to Monday I would have to differ with my views on more than half of the winners.
This is obviously only my view and everyone will see different things in each display. :halo:

Hmm. Not sure i agree with lots of those.

BBMF for me wasnt the best demo. Its low energy mainly flypasts. An example of the aircraft and nothing more.

I'd have given the overseas to the Frecce Tricollori but i didn't see the Falcons as they got cancelled on Friday.
Paint scheme there were some great ones. The CF18 is ok but there were better.

Best paint job? RAF typhoon beyond a doubt ;)
seriously though the Belgian F16 had a brilliant paint scheme as did the pakistani herc even though it wasn't flying. i agree with gnirt the Frecce Tricollori were better than the falcons (in my eyes). Also very surprised the RAF Typhoon didn't win an award. for me it was the star of the show in terms of how dynamic the display was, a fantastic way to end the friday and sunday

Certainly don't agree with the Reds & RJF winning awards, although both were very good displays, I'd say the Typhoon was much better than the former.

I don't agree with any of them other than Delta.

See its a personal preference thing, ive seen the RAF Typhoon display 3 times in the last month now and i dont find it as exciting to watch or photograph as the other typhoons from other countries. I think the display generally shows too much underside. Its all down to what you want to see. Personally i want top side of planes, aerodynamic condensation trails, and noise and i thought the other Typhoons did it better. The RAF was "neat and tidy" but not as exciting.
Personal preference plays a lot into this and judging panels will be no different.

Not sure why my fellow FRIATers voted for Couteau Delta, I must be missing something. The Belgian F-16 was far superior as was the Finnish Hornet.

Must add I completely forgot to vote this year

Reckon it was the free patches that did it. ;)

Personally went for the Swiss F-18 (mental practice on Thursday) for As the Crow Flies and the RCAF Griffon for Best Paint Scheme.

What free patch ? did I something? :'( Apart from Vador having a walk through on Sunday and some French ground crew, first time I can remember no freebies being handed out in years

Limited to 100 mate, were flown over with the team, had a certificate to confirm. Got my hands on one towards the end of Saturday, were only a handful left then.

That will pee a few people off, they were flogging them for £20 on the stall. Someone said they had them behind the table and you had to ask and show your pass to buy.

Showed my pass and they handed it to me, no payment.

Yes the Swiss F18 was great when I saw her practice on Thursday as was the SU27 , saw her practice as I was leaving, must have been at the right place as she displayed right over me! Noise was incredible!!

The 'As the Crow Flies' Trophy (FRIAT Trophy): French Air Force - Couteau Delta

I thought the 'As the Crow Flies' Trophy was for the aircraft/crew that arrived from the furthest distance, but I must be wrong as Couteau Delta only came from France, whereas other aircraft came from New Zealand, Australia, etc.

It's the best display as judged by FRIAT members. Personally voted for the Slovenian PC-9M myself, an incredibly precise and polished routine.

Yes have to agree the Slovenian PC-9M display was excellent. That negative G loop must feel nasty if your the pilot so respect for that. As you say the display was very precise and had some very neat creative manoeuvres.

'As the crow flies' is indeed a confusing and obscure name. I wish they'd rename it to 'FRIAT Choice Display Award' or somesuch.

From airtattoo.com website:

"The As The Crow Flies Trophy is awarded in memory of the late Air Marshal Sir Denis Crowley-Milling, former controller of the RAF Benevolent Fund and founder chairman of the Air Tattoo"

Personally, I think that The RAFCTE Trophy should have gone to the Swiss PC-7 team. I saw the Falcons do validation on Wednesday and was underwhelmed! They didn't display on Friday, but PC-7 did and I enjoyed it! Not high energy, but some nice tight flying.
