100 years London flypast 10 th June.

Post by starfighter » Mon Jun 18, 2018 5:58 am

Good day one and all, have found Notams, and route for the above including practice, but am
struggling to find a list of the participating aircraft/ helicopters,I’ve heard 20 + Typhoons from
Lossiemouth to Coningsby,Tucanos to Wattisham and up to 12 Chinooks to an airfield in Essex (sorry forgot name ).
If anyone can help I would be grateful, biggest flypast since the one I saw at Abingdon in 19 can’t remember!!!!!!!!!.
Thanks
Steve.

Morning Steve. its actually 10th July at least I hope it is otherwise we have all missed it.
Stapleford Tawney is the rumoured airfield for all Heli,s but this could be just because Lambourne beacon is just up the road so its probably just a holding point.Don't know where you got 12 Chinooks from, there is a Notam out for 6 believed to be 7 Squadron chinooks practising tomorrow over Wiltshire/Hampshire.
Other things being mentioned are 9 Hawks flying from Leeming.plus the 20 odd Typhoons supposed to be taking part
but at this time it is all rumour and counter rumour . plenty of time yet to sort the wood out from the chaf .

I had a conversation with an Odiham staff member at the end of last year, who said that they were told to have 28 Chinooks available (14+14 spares) but that may have changed.

I heard about 12 Chinooks

But I also heard there were to be no Juno or Jupiter Helis ?? Seems a shame.

There should be 26 Typhoons creating the 100. When they did the early practice on 05/12 last year, 11 aircraft were launched from Coningsby 10 to create a 0 plus a whip. You need 1 at the head and tail of the 0 between four on either side spaced out . For the 1 you will need six in line astern.

Great info' here, but the last bit made me laugh! We had a guy at work who couldn't get a single Idiom correct, so we made a 2-page list of his variations.
It is of course "wheat from the chaff" referring to winnowing, whereby husks, bugs & other detritus are separated from the grain. Then you have "see the wood for the trees" referring to somebody unable to see past the detail & appreciate the whole picture. Sorry for the lecture. ;)
You may be thinking " who yanked my bars" or "rattled my chain"?.... But no 'Chav deserves to lose his wood' :)

This is taken from AFA as the latest (12 June) heard by one of the members:-

9 Hawk T1
9 Hawk T2
7 Tornado
3 F35
21 Typhoons in a 100 formation
9 Red Arrows
5 Chinook
2 Puma
5 more Chinooks
3 Juno/Jupiter
BBMF
9 Tucano
3 Prefect
2 Shadow
1 Phenom
3 Hercules
1 Atlas
1 C17
2 BAE 146
1 Sentinel
1 Voyager
1 RC135
1 AWACS

Which, if my arithmetic is correct, makes 99 plus the BBMF.

Also from another AFA member:-

On 6th To 9th July 2018 Horse Guards Whitehall:-

Aircraft On Display
Royal Aircraft Factory BE2c Biplane
Supermarine Spitfire MkXVI
Gloster Meteor F4
Harrier GR3
Tornado GR1
DC3 Dakota
Chinook Helicopter
Typhoon Full Scale Replica
F35 Full Scale Replica
Cheers, Bob

Hi all,

great info, but I cannot get into London to see the finale.....is there a published routing, particularly for the fixed wing aircraft?

I can get to Stapleford for the helos, but would like to know if there is spot in Suffolk/Essex where the fighters can be seen.

I have heard in from Southend towards London and out via Heathrow, but I suspect this would be too disruptive for civilian ops?

Also does anyone know if the RAF100 flypast at Fairford is similar in numbers/types?

Steve

I think they are following a *similar* routing to trooping of the colour flypasts...RVP at Southwold before making the final run in towards Buckingham Palace. Could try Kelvendon Hatch or Hainault Forest which both come under the lined route from Southwold. The Fairford event has around 50 aircraft iirc.

Neil

The other thread running on this subject has mentioned Fairlop water as a good viewing spot .Just watch out for parking restrictions ,unnecesarily complicated ,look on line for info various other parking locations along Forest rd Ie garden centre ,cycle centre ,small industrial estate ,Tennis centre all have car parks along this rd Hainault country park off Romford road also has a car park.

I understand the formation will split and some of it will fly over Runnymede, anyone know which aircraft (or rough numbers) will be passing over Runnymede?
