A delightful day yesterday wherein our late afternoon QRA lifted in full afterburn, banked sharply to 180 and climbed rapidly to FL190 as he transferred to Swannick Mil. Although he was way above cloud level, he hadn't found the off switch and we enjoyed his departure, and we presume subsequent climb to FL430.
We knew that Madras21 had been around, and as another plane had had a probe problem, then perhaps there was a litre or two available for eventual top up.
Rebel57 also lifted and went away to give Holbeach a thrashing, both returning break to land and taxy back for pins, to end an enjoyable day.

Should be a very pleasant autumnal day, partial cloud at some 16C in a steady E/S/E wind - may well need a light topcoat for complete comfort.

Runway 07 all day, airfield is NOTAMed nothing before 09.00 local, but should be full of activity like last week.

Following clock change this week should be interesting with a late start, not before 09.00, indicating a drop of early night flying.

Hoping this will be Razor and Havoc continuing their Holbeach strafe activity, so letting 29 Sqdn carry on as normal.

Wishing all FC members the very best for 2017.

Tuesday Club members, part timers and hangars on, will of course be back on parade at the beginning of another enjoyable year.

A cold day at the gate today, and even with no Tornado and one main squadron away, there was plenty of activity to keep us alert as 29 had multiple launches.

First solo flight by 09 sounded most competent, the lovely "wokka wokka" from Vortex 592 Chinook off to Holbeach, and Fl. Lt. Lawton reminding everyone how a performance take off should be done as he went into the overhead for ongoing display practice.

If the latest NOTAM is to be believed, then we are in for a drop of night flying with nothing before 14.00 - previous references to late starts for evening or night flying have been generally ignored.

Still, it may well be a tad warmer this week as we anticipate a bit of "bingo" activity to entertain.

Have been trying to contact Jimbo, to wish him the best for his 83rd on 27 Jan, but no success - have any other members seen him this year ?

Trust that all members will join me in wishing No.2 Son a very fine 39th birthday.

Best wishes also to "The Captain", fine purveyor of accurate logging, as he clocks up his 52nd.

Further to my Feb 19th above, I am delighted to report that Jimbo is still with us.

I have seen Jimbo at CG1, and am told that he mistakenly left his moble and wallet in an unattended jacket - lesson learnt.

Further, his replacement pay as you go device has failed.

Days again this week, although there may not be many members on parade due to annual leave and personal commitments.

I trust that you will all join me in wishing George all the very best on his 78th birthday, Wednesday 21st June.

Further to post on Tue Jul 21 2015, page 22 above, we last week met a gentleman who had been at Marham at that time.

He was able to confirm that the Indian SU30 did indeed depart in the vertical manner, followed by the accompanying Typhoon.

Would have loved to have been there, especially as Coningsby tower wouldn't permit performance departures from the SU30s.

Why not?

I remember an F-15D doing a performance departure from there which was very nice. :thumb:

SU30 pilot asked for permission to do performance departure, and was told negative you're here on detachment and not display.

We found this a surprise, as other Typhoon were departing this way during the day.

Drop of night flying this coming week, so I will be turning left for LN instead of right for CBY.

This will also give me the chance to further inspect progress on the huge F35 HAS to the south of the Marham runway, 06 end.

Norfolk County Council may eventually consider the provision of a laybye, to the side of the main road, so keeping over enthusiastic glimpers out of harms way when the new planes become active.

. . . . or will it be double yellow lines? - much cheaper than a layby! But let us hope for the best,
