Euro 2024

Post by steamy » Fri May 24, 2024 9:12 am

My favorite competition. Short and sweet, with interesting group ties and always some controversy!

Is it coming home this time? (they're odds on favorites to be fair) :P

Who's got who?

Not sure who I'm going for:
( <---------- , don't think they have a strong enough team this time )

I'm thinking France or Spain.

Leaving Rashford out could be a mistake.

If England play like they did agaisnt Brazil when I went to see them. They ain't getting past the quarter finals.

Repeat after me

Scotland get battered everywhere they go
Scotland get battered everywhere they go
Everywhere they gooooo

10 mins longer than most thought  crazy England are favourites. Reckon we'll be out at the Groups or KO's.

Shocking first half for Scotland. That was a horror tackle by Porteous. His tournament is over

Not the worst tackle by any means, but definitely a straight red. That’s what happens when you’re outclassed in every area you get desperate. No surprises, Scotlands achievement is making the finals.

In reality we were never going to take anything from tonight’s game and that’s the toughest of our group games out of the way. However Scotland were atrocious and the players and management need to sort out what went very wrong tonight, the whole set up from kick off was wrong and that comes down to the managers selection and choice of formation.

At least the fans will still enjoy themselves out there🍺

If Scotland turn up, then they have as good a chance of beating Switzerland as any other team, but they need to turn up. The players that got us to the finals need to find that desire and attitude again. Last night was hopefully the thumping they needed to realise that this is the big boys and going into a game at this level with the attitude and lack of vision/knowledge/respect/gameplan they displayed last night, then you’re going to get humped.

Steve Clark is not at this level, didn’t see him once last night barking orders or reorganising the team formation after the first goal when it became obvious that Germany were controlling the game as they pleased, not even the second or third goal got him reorganising and by the time of the fourth he was planning his summer holidays.

As someone who went to the 1974 trip and had a great trip saw good football and met loads of fans from all countries a lot of who we sent back to Scotland for holidays and I actually met a few,I really feel sorry for the fans its a great holiday but to be beaten by a team who are not at their best and made the Scots look like carthorses must be hard to take,at least on our trip they went down fighting..Andy Robertson said they had a game plan,,it seemed to be get as many players round the guy with the ball then let him do what he wants.Nice to see some people think they can do something in the tournament I hope I am wrong but we have the same ailment England had for a while. When you play with good European/World players every week you can become a god but when you have to play without them and it gets hard.As a Pleb I am not brought into the scheme of things but I wonder why fitness hasnt really been mentioned apart, from carthorses,Jock Wallace was often laughed at for taking Rangers to Gullane sand dunes probably a hundred feet or more of sand and making them sprint up it with punishments if they failed.Brutal but it worked,I did it when I worked at Gullane. On a lower scale a few of us used to run the same sort of thing at our sand mountain about 100 ft or more and it worked. That Scotland team couldnt have lived with us fitness wise let alone the Rangers team. They just are not fit (for purpose)and Probably the manager might be questioned after a record of i win in 11 possibly 13 and scraping into Qatar before leaving early.Never thought I would say good things about Rangers but its true.Did any body else notice the old Scotland use of strikers ie take them dont play them.

feel better now

Re the fitness - There are far too many games being played Domestically, in Europe, International Friendlies. There is minimal time in turn arounds.
(thinking Thursday night football Saturday lunch KO here)

Players are not getting the rest like they used to, and so desperately need. Injuries are so high and that pushes form out the window too. Which really disrupts a team going into a major tournament.

However, the governing bodies want more games, in more places (see talks of PL games being played far away) for more money, it's pushing players way beyond their boundaries.

Not really an old argument but okay - don't need to throw your dummies out. It isn't the players fault it is the organisations, they are pushing the players too far, too many games in a short space of time. Simple as that.

Rambling on about nice holidays in Scotland is nothing to do with Euro's Football.

If you swore then FC immediately changes it.
