Gary you are a superstar! Without this I wouldn't have known. My wife and I just spent nearly an hour watching and photographing just over the Suffolk/Norfolk border near Lakenheath. Life list ticked again! Thanks again.

Beautiful auroral display visible from home just west of Cambridge, which peaked around 2330L. Greens, reds and purples all visible with the naked eye, and directly overhead too. Breathtaking

was amazing! I went to the Arctic circle before and never saw them... just had to chill out the back garden...
I'd say HF was a nightmare though.

They were more the Southern Lights than the Northern Lights last night, certainly from Inverness I was facing south most of the night until the corona established itself overhead.

Talk of it being visible again tonight, with some sources saying even stronger.

Above website appears to have crashed with traffic, but the last check suggested it was very low chance of being visible in England again tonight.

Nothing tonight - last night was spectacular in West Suffolk. All I managed tonight were a few stars.

Managed to miss them both nights!

:
I guess a trip to Northern Scotland will be needed.
Edit - alert now downgraded to a yellow, I think that's all for tonight.

A comment by my daughter at a BBQ today reminded me of a sighting I had probably 1985 or 86.I was travelling in pitch black, from a meeting in Dundee to a Darts match in the local pub in Carnoustie.I was probably the only vehicle around at about 21:00 when I noticed as I came out of the background light of Dundee as far as I could see was light green sky with streaks of light going in all directions. It was like some of the film of AAA one sees on news broadcasts.I travelled about 9 miles before turning south and have never seen the like again. Every time there is a chance of the Lights .I take my wife out into the dark spots in the country but cloud seems to get there first.Daughter stays in a hamlet of 6 houses about 15 miles into the country from us and seems to get great pics.On one occassion we were about 4 miles from her house she got pics of the grreenish hue that are shown on TV .We tried random shots and got Black. See what happens this week?
