Possible Tax scam

Just had a dodgy looking e mail supposedly from HMRC.Sender down as 938-Uk Revenue.Alludes to applying for Tax reimbursement.Format doesnt look like any contact I have had with the Taxman.

Someone on Facebook hacking accounts claiming to be from the IMF with financial help ! doing the rounds also....

Surely any HMRC communication comes through the post doesn't it?

No, a hell of a lot of it now comes via email. I think you can choose to have it sent by post, but their first choice (as with so many other organisations) is the 'electronic pathway'. Sign of the times...

I have just googled “HMRC communications “. There is a section on www.gov.uk where you can check genuine HMRC e-mail addresses.

I got this from willm%-%ear% at ciali%uyn.com (substitute an s for the %) this morning.

"Dear Prime Member,


We regret to inform you that your Amazon Prime membership has been canceled due to a failed payment. It seems that your last payment couldn't be processed, and as your payment method wasn't updated in time, we had to cancel your membership.
