Insurance Premiums

I have just received renewal notices for both car and home insurance .Despite being with same insurer and not having had any claims they have increased in price by approx 65%. Is this sort of increase being seen by other members? A check with alternative provider ( for car insurance ) resulted in an even higher premium.Any feedback would be appreciated

House insurance up from £225 to £300 for building and contents. Anything comparable was a very similar price.

Just had my car renewal quote - increased by 9%

Started to look around for other quotes and bailed out when they wanted my home insurance details as well. Got another few weeks to decide whether to re-visit alternative insurers... or go with the renewal of existing insurer... which in light of your experience doesn't seem too bad.

Recently renewed both car and home insurance, both at lower premiums.

I always ring brokers and ask how they can improve the quote. Never failed yet.

I always research before renewing, sometimes using comparison sites, sometimes ringing existing provider and asking why there has been an increase, I'm happy to say they have usually reduced the premium, if they don't I go elsewhere.
Sadly loyalty to companies means nothing..

Ring your insurance company up,ask them why your insurance has increased this much, then ask them can you give me a better deal,I do this every year to my car, house, rac.normally I get 30% knock off,if they don't tell them I will go elsewhere, they cannot afford to loose customers.

My car insurance down by about 8%, wife's car insurance down by even more!
I think a government 'guidance' issued a month or two back stipulated that insurance policy holders renewing must not be quoted premiums that were more than quoted for prospective new customers.

I always use the comparison sites for quotes, you've got nothing to lose. I had phoned my existing insurer to find out what the renewal cost was going to be and, of course it was more expensive. I politely cancelled the policy renewal.
I am lucky that my insurance isn't very expensive because I'm old, and so is my car, but definitely shop around!

We had part of our roof damaged during the big storm earlier this year. We have never claimed on our home insurance, so over 20 years, but we decided to claim the approx £1500 cost to repair the roof. So when renewing in the summer all the quotes were about £200 more. Part of me regrets ever bothering with house insurance, we would have been better off putting the premiums in a savings account every year. However, as others have said, use a comparison site. It’s a pain to run through the online forms, but if you create an account it remembers you, and all your details, when you come back the next year. I use them every year, and even if they quote cheaper, I use that as a barter tool to get the existing insurer to drop their price. As punishment, I demand my existing insurer has to beat the cheaper quote, not match it. After all, they had first dibs and they blew it.
