Reading the papers I see today 2 April is 40 Years since Argentina invaded the Falklands.
Apparently British defence chiefs had feared for some time that the military junta would make a move on the Falklands but did not believe a mission to recapture them would be successful. Major General Julian Thompson took a call on Friday 2 April and ordered to sail 8000 miles and recapture the Falklands islands!
From Wikipedia
The retaking of the Falkland Islands was considered extremely difficult. The chances of a British counter-invasion succeeding were assessed by the US Navy, according to historian Arthur L. Herman, as "a military impossibility"
On 21 May Thompson led 3 Commando as it successfully went ashore at San Carlos and by 14 June the capital Port Stanley was in British hands again - they did the impossible.
From Wikipedia
In 1994, Argentina adopted a new Constitution,[7] which declared the Falkland Islands as part of one of its provinces by law.[8] However, the islands continue to operate as a self-governing British Overseas Territory.[9]
The " Jingoism" stoked in the early 80s by the ' Malvinas' is being encouraged again by President Alberto Fernandez. According to the press Fernandez is being supported by China's President Xi.

Where has that time gone, a friend of mines brother was the first serviceman to die when a Seaking (?) crashed on the way down, very sad memories.
Was war ever declared during the conflict?

If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!
