Olympic games - Tokyo 2020 (in 2021)

Post by Mike » Mon Jul 26, 2021 5:14 pm

Any of you guys watching?

Well done to Adam Peaty for winning the Gold in the men's 100m breaststroke. :thumb:

As for Skateboarding, should that be an Olympic sport?

Tokyo 2020 Olympics ( 2021)

Post by slogen51 » Mon Jul 26, 2021 5:18 pm

Great Britain off to a decent start on the medal table and only one of the Gold's in a sitting down sport!

Adam Peaty is a monster at the breast stroke and Tom Daley finally collects an Olympic gold in hit the water at the same time as your mate. Seriously though to beat the Chinese in a diving event is a major achievement.

I remember when we didn't get a medal let alone a gold medal until the second week.

Required viewing for me Mike. I'm not really a sports fan but I am happy to stand up and be counted as an events fan.

Tennis and f 'rinstance Hamburg Open? No thanks. But Wimbledon, bring it on.
Likewise paying SkyTV to watch millionaires being paid to kick a ball around every week- No way. EUROs 2021, watched every match.

Olympics is a pleasure to watch and getting involved from the outside in sports that I can only aspire to understand is good for the soul. As of today, I am now an expert in Taekwondo. Who knew!

In summary, loving all of it.

I will become interested when the Athletics start, being married to an Athletics fan. She even had the cheek to disappear off to Euro Champs in Seville, Hungary, and World Champs in Edmonton, Canada without me!!!!. Sadly, at the moment, it doesn't seem the same without the crowds.... :(

I'm doing my level best to miss it all Mike! Not interested in sport of any kind. Terrible waste of good telly time.

I was appalled to see the England rugby team taking the knee before the match this week.

This kind of thing has driven me away from F1 and now I find my self no longer caring about the Olympics either.

Sport should not be politicised, and in my view when sportsmen/women are representing the country they shouldn't be doing it as its not a formally endorsed view of the people of the UK.

I stand corrected! My point remains though!

Well, I guess it's a matter of personal opinion. For myself, I have nothing against it. I suspect, in the future, you are not going to be watching much sport then, Chris.

Come on guys, this thread has got nothing to do with the dreadful 'taking the knee' carp - it's about Team GB's achievements during the Olympic Games. :)

No team should have to 'take the knee', the racist thing should have been a thing of the past hundreds of years ago.

A gold and a silver medal for team GB for BMX biking, I don't know whether to laugh or cry!

BMX is a race and, imho, much more worthy of an Olympic place than any of the subjectively judged competitions; which is not to deny the level of skill or commitment of those competitors.
What ever you think, our two medallists were not born with silver spoons in their mouths and had to work hard to get to where they are. I think both are worthy of entry to the BBC Sports personality - great role models.

I know what you mean Iain, it just cracked me up today watching grown-ups cycling madly around a short bumpy track on tiny bikes!

Did you manage to log on to that site you were asking about the other day, was it UKRA or something?

For some reason it was loading ultra slowly; I find it complements Fighter Control very well. Tends to be more political and argumentative but we do meet up at RIAT every year.

Shouldnt really question the bike riding and cycling in circles Mike .I saw a programme a few weeks ago and it showed what was rejected.Ballroom dancing Disco dancing Fishing(I fish but would fall short of the lack of alcohol bit, being sponsored by mcewans might also be a problemjDarts ,Pool,Dog obedience,Curling (its already in the winter one)Dry sledging,Highland dancing..Cant remember any more.It was on you tube but I cant remember how I got to it.If you fancy it Mike we could have Highland Dram drinking solo and pairs.Might have to do testing on the apparatus before hand and obviously do qualifiers. It has as much relevance to the olympic ethos as some do now.Dont think they did synchronized diving volleyball ,bmx.and gymnastics before Marathon but I bet they had a good drink.
