Agreed. And only the cricket diehards will realize the domestic 50-over cup (the format we finally became world champions of) is being played at the minute. Every time we have success in a format we kick it into touch.Too many different versions of cricket now appearing.

Re: The Hundred - New Cricket Format
Gotta say I've enjoyed the games so far. Whether the format hold up for a second season remains to be seen. With Sky pushing the format you would say it's possible here to stay..
Already feeling like the 2nd Test is drifting towards a draw ad it's only end of day one When the sun came out the pitch did nothing. Wanted to go to Lords today but didn't decide until late so the better tickets were long gone. Will have to go next year, when Pakistan, Sri Lanka and New Zealand are coming from memory

Don't write off the 2nd test just yet. We still have England's first innings to look forward to later today, be that after India get bowled out or they declare. If recent tests involving England are anything to go by India will be batting again just after tea tomorrow, plenty of time to get a result!
On the 100 I have quite enjoyed the coverage on the BBC , with the commentary team of Tuffers, Vaughan and Isa being very informative and with big Carlos Brathwaite contributing on occasion it gives a good understanding of what the bowlers are trying to do with their variations. Also, it nice to see decent sized crowds watch the games .
I don't particularly care which team wins, but good fun to watch.
Being a bit of a traditionalist I'm not a big fan of the shorter form of the game , but if it attracts younger people to watch and play the game then I'm not going to knock it.

Re: The Hundred - New Cricket Format
Do not need the garish colours all over the screen and which make the viewable area of the match so much smaller. Agree BBC commentators are far better than Sky; Ian Ward never seems to know when to shut up.
Re: The Hundred - New Cricket Format
England need 272 from 60 overs, do they go for it ? Or let a great Test peter out?

88-5!!
Thankfully I'm on earlies so off to bed and miss the inevitable.
Eng just don't know how to finish off tailenders.
Why put 5 men in the boundary rather than crowd the bat.
Least if they'd had a couple of slips then it'd have been over earlier.
Well played Bumrah and Shami.
This new Eng chap Byes, like the look of him already .

Just watched on TV the Oval invincibles win the Women's 100 final
Some great bowling and slogging and a very enjoyable series, although I have only seen a few matches. It is refreshing to see some smiles on players faces.
One for the record books - out caught by the bowler's ( Marizanne Kapp) Wife ! I can't believe that has happened before in professional cricket?
Full Lords - great to see people back out enjoying themselves - do they have to take a covid test?

Re: The Hundred - New Cricket Format
My wife hates cricket, and I didn't watch any of the hundred, not being a fan of not pure cricket......until Thursday!!. We both thoroughly enjoyed what we saw, and watched it all live from that point. We will certainly catch up with it at the beginning next time. This was a classic example of me dismissing something without seeing it before deciding whether or not it was good. Won't make that mistake again!!. Well done to everybody who took part.

Re: The Hundred - New Cricket Format
I am watching the men's final on catch-up right now
Some fantastic hitting
Who is that Middlesex player, Sterling? What power , his bat is like a shed door
My only worry is that the youngsters will think all cricket is like this!

Re: The Hundred - New Cricket Format
Why shouldn't it be like this series
It's far more exciting than " normal" cricket,
Even Mrs G asked if these players can carry on plying in rain ,why not test plyers etc
Sorry if the above offends some of the old guard

Re: The Hundred - New Cricket Format
I like all cricket
I was initially suspicious of the 100 but it has turned out to be a good contest between bat and ball. Quite a few of the players I had not heard of before as I don't have Sky - Liam Livingstone was a revelation to me.
Limited over is ok as long as the two teams are on level terms , as soon as you get a mismatch or a clatter of wickets then the match fizzles out.

Re: The Hundred - New Cricket Format
Paul Stirling joined Middlesex in 2009 but I believe that because he is Irish he now is classified as an overseas player. He has been belting the ball around cricket fields all his career.
Even if you had Sky you still would not have heard of some of the players in the competition. The Hundred OK, but it must not be allowed to diminish the importance of other competitions. How many watched the 50 over county final on Thursday and some of whose players made the 100 more important than playing in what used to be many years ago the Gillette cup.
Created some excitement but an additional competition that is not required if we wish to develop players for Test Match cricket; what a shambles that is at the moment! Take the best of the 100 and the best of T20 and find a way to combine them.

Re: The Hundred - New Cricket Format
Correct that is why I put it in parentheses as quoting op.
Re: The Hundred - New Cricket Format
If you were a carpenter, and went to B and Q to get pliers, I guess you would be plying your trade..........I'll get my coat. Question. Where is the 30 degrees of heat we were promised for this next fortnight?????
