Probably right Mike.I was only going to add that according to ENGLISH papers a lot of the fans really let the side down .Breaking down fences, mass fighting ,property damage. They never change! I was in Denmark when they decided to destroy Europe in 1988.On a camp site when I tried to order a drink while watching my son in the playpark Iwas treated like dirt until the German guy I was with pointed out Iwas Scottish .Suddenly I was OK .One the group who had been abusing me came over all happy as if nothing had happened. He got told to P--- OFF as I was the same person as i was a few minutes previously and he was a two faced pig.I apologised to the German but he said he was about to do the same anyway.t The owner of the site came over with profuse apologies and chucked the group off the site.Bet their families were happy

Scottish fans are just as bad, I remember the destruction they wreaked in Manchester about 10 years ago. Most places had run out of booze by 11am. The place was an absolute pigsty the morning after and absolutely stank of urine (even more so than normal....)

Its football fans in general, not just the English..

It is also some, not all, of fans regardless of nationality who cause the trouble. Let's not sink to the depths of xenophobic mud slinging.

I admit the Manchester issue it was Rangers "fans." They seem to team up with some of the London clubs mainly Chelsea to cause mayhem according to a Police source I used to have. Or at least they used to.

I locked the Football thread earlier, partly because it's done with as Mike said, partly because there are many strong opinions around last nights performance, and I didn't want it ending up like the shocker seen on social media.

Well it seems to me a new policy/strategy to lock a thread because it may get out of hand in the future. The Euros have finished but there is still a reaction to the results that some may want to talk about. Generally we we know threads fade out in a natural way when there is no longer any interest ( RIAT discussions are the exception :) )

However it is only football not life and death.

I agree Mike, it seems that the expression of free speech is being removed. of course people will have comments to make about Euro 2020. A very poor decision by a moderator, perhaps he should be locked! :grr:

I locked and deleted a thread around jokes as people were starting to insult the team last night - I did not want a repeat of the social media show over night.

I then locked and deleted a 2nd thread by the same original poster.

Are any of you aware of the above???

I locked the football thread so it didn't go the same way.

Nothing stopping another mod unlocking if they don't agree?

On the subject of Mods, when are you stepping up plmc135?

I posted one comment suggesting a rewatch of one particular kick. No insult just an observation of how I saw it.

Steamy give it a rest

As for locking threads. Sometimes you can see the way a thread is going and it's just easier to get in earlier and stop the thread descending into arguments. Or you can spend the next few hours dealing with the fall out. Whether you like it or not Mike did the right thing.

ah would you stop, if England won there'd be no locked threads and "It's coming home" plastered everywhere

If arguments start I would lock any thread and have in the past . It might shock you but most have the staff do have better things than sorting out grown men acting like little children.
