My brother who is HGV trained (retired) got a letter the other day from DVLA asking if he would like to do a bit of driving due to the 'crisis' and effects of Covid :Wow:
something like 1mil were sent
Really, they should get some uptake then ;)
Doubt it. I know 3 people that have received the letter and they've all said - errr - "No thanks", but in trucker-ese it's pronounced F*$k Off.

Well done Paddy Boy, a decent fill, i filled up yesterday £59.08, and there were still idiots having their tank full after adding 10 litres to a 50/60 Litre tank, no wonder there are queues

No fuel problems in Lincolnshire yesterday - on the way back from Waddo I topped up without queuing and saw several garages open with no queuing. But as soon as I passed Kings Lynn in Norfolk I noticed queues and empty pumps etc

Radio 4 interviewed a petrol station worker at a garage in Surrey and asked ' I suppose you are finding it difficult to get deliveries?' and the lady replied ' oh no we are getting more than usual it's just running out quickly and went on to say that they had received two tanker deliveries this week instead of the normal one per week !!

Think I will try a tank or two of E5/99 and see what it what it comes out at.
Have you any results you can share on using a tank or two of E5/99 yet? It only took you about three weeks of E10/95 to note the poorer mpg compared to the previous E5/95.

I am increasingly suspicious that the forecourt shortages may have been caused by the switch E5/95 to E10/95, as I don't believe in coincidence. Presumably if many cars are experiencing perhaps 10% poorer mpg, compared to the previous old E5/95, the average driver would have to fill up 10% more often leading to 10% more demand for fuel. That's all it would take for a few garages to run low/out of unleaded. And as soon as the press tell us of fuel shortages, we all (diesel owners included) panic!

Or am I being too cynical?

I am interested in people suggesting they are getting lower fuel mileage on E10/95 petrol. I went on a reasonable length run last week to Lakenheath and found that I was doing a better mileage than on the previous E5/95 fuel. :)

Compared to a previous reasonable length run, or compared to local running about?

Compared to the same reasonable length run (< 100 miles).

Initial claim was based two very adjacent long runs on E10/95 (approx 900 miles each). Have now indeed filled with E5/99 - cost 6p/l more at my Tesco - but circumstances have meant I have only really done some pottering since so no real figures yet. However in a few weeks am due to repeat a long run (will be two tanks worth) so am hoping to get a definitive answer then.

I've been using Tesco Momentum and/or BP/Shell super unleaded for quite a while in my Golf (other brands of fuel are available!) I seem to get the same estimated range with 97 or 99 octane as I would have with 95 (when I've had no choice but to put this in) even though there is less in terms of quantity of 97/99 in the tank - if you see what I mean? The Golf is only 4 years old though so for older engines this might not be so noticeable perhaps?
