Brilliant drive by Sir Lewis today to kick off what promises to be a superb season. :thumb:

Great race and result! Lewis did so well to hold Max off for the last 5 laps

Will say yes it was a great drive. But pretty sure that moment at turn 13 overheated Verstappens tyres and blew the chance I'm sure he had to pass Sir Lewis on the following lap.

Makes me laugh all this 'we finally have 2 great drivers in equal machinery', I'm sorry, the Red Bull is a faster car than the Mercedes at this point in the season.
Although RB management are going to look increasingly stupid if Perez cannot close the gap to Verstappen.

I have a sneaky suspicion that Perez will more than close the gap to Max - it could be fireworks at Redbull this season.

Unknown. Not too well. Stroll 10th, Vettel last after driving to his usual poor standard these days.

Looking to be a much closer run thing this year if the first race is anything to go by, which will be good I think! Nice to see a bit of competition to Mercedes from Red Bull.

Was a shame as was doing quite well until he binned it into the back of the Alpine, and blamed Ocon

A very good season opener. Just shows that it is possible to beat a faster car with a good strategy. I've not got any allegiancies to any of the top two teams ( until McLaren get up there again🙂 ) so I just want to see some good , clean close racing.
I think Perez will make a big difference at RB once he finds his feet. He showed some glimpses of his abilities in this race and is very consistent. As already been mentioned there could be fireworks at RB later in the season.

On a negative note, at the back of the grid we have Mazepin. Admittedly the Haas is a pig amongst thoroughbreds but from what I saw this weekend I wonder how he got a licence to drive in F1 ( money maybe?) Surely the minimum criteria his to keep the car on the track and facing in the right direction, something he doesn't seem to be able to do from one lap to the next. I'll be happy for him to prove me wrong.
And, finally Seb. Oh dear! Time to hang up his boots 🌝

Mazaspins Dad is a Russian billionaire. S0 yes, bought drive, but he wasn't bad in F.2. Similar to Lance Stroll's situation, though Lance is a somewhat nicer person IMO.

Cheerz guys. sorry to hear Aston didn't have a great race, hopefully they will get better, this is only their first race after all, you know I'm still backing Sir Lewis for the drivers but I've got divided loyalties for the Cars, Mercedes due to SLH being the driver but I really like Aston Martins (not totally due to a certain Secret Agent) they are my favourite cars.

The new Aston Martin safety car looked extremely smart, only thing missing was Daniel Craig 007 to drive it

The safety car looked faster than Vettel's race car.

I don't approve of the three weeks gap between races

There should have been a Chinese GP in between Bahrain and Imola but due to a certain pandemic it was cancelled. Otherwise there would not have been a 3 week gap.

I didn't realize that. Thanks.

Last season, because of the pandemic, contained a period of 5 or 6 races in two months at tracks that are not normally on the F1 circuit - for me that was an improvement and made for an interesting watch.

Agreed, was cracking to have some newer tracks back in - Good to see Imola back alongside Portimao in Portgual, that was a good race!

Us oldies have the memories of that dreadful week-end at Imola, with the deaths of Roland, Ayrton, and the serious crash and injury of Rubens. Thankfully we are in a far safer and less dangerous [mostly] era now. Looking forward to it!.

You sound like a mere youngster, I can just remember the accident involving Von Trips in 1961. That was a true disaster with several spectators killed as well.

Agreed we wont see a season like that again, F1 will just return to its usual staticaly boring circuits! They missed out this past weekend by not using the good outer loop at Bahrain.
Growing old disgracefully
