Re: Formula 1.
Reading Sky Sports McLaren are racing a special scheme at Monaco reminiscent of the Porsche 917 Gulf 24 hour.
It looks tasty

Re: Formula 1.
Indeed. I remember the Gulf GT 40's in that scheme years ago. Lovely memories.

Re: Formula 1.
That Mclaren looks stunning, super drive by Lando today, he is going to be a champion one day I'm sure.
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

Re: Formula 1.
Did Leclerc try to do a Schumacher and 'park' his Ferrari but got it a bit wrong ?
Re: Formula 1.
The billionaire boys who seemed to take a great liking to visiting the crash barriers. The one thing puzzling me is how did "Marzipan" not manage to emulate them
Charles did park his Ferrari, but he wanted to give his mechanics something to do before the race

Re: Formula 1.
Wonder what the spread for which lap Verstappen will crash into Leclerc is ( assuming the latter starts on pole)?
Between laps 10-20 Evens!
3-1 more than four safety cars with the crash bang wallop oh what a picture brigade out there.

Re: Formula 1.
Just to even it up a bit, there were some fairly hefty bangs in the Indy 500 practice runs as well.
Re: Formula 1.
Or Bottas being told, 'take the dutchman out at turn 1 and you will get a 2022 contract'
Fingers crossed for rain, only hope we've got!

Re: Formula 1.
Well, that got that oddity of a race out of the way, so normal racing can resume in two weeks time at Baku!. Excellent drive by Max, Carlos, and particularly Lando, Not very often that Mercedes drop the ball, but they did that big time!!. Some commentators already writing Lewis off for the Championship already. Daft, with 16 odd races still to go. That Mercedes has never really liked slow corners, but strange that Bottas was able to sort his car out and Lewis wasn't, though it was a shame that yellow flags possibly ruined their better laps. I thought it completely daft that some people were suggesting that Leclerc's crash was deliberate. It was a heavy one. If he wanted to do that, all he had to do was nudge the barrier at 5 mph at Rascasse for heavens sake!.
Re: Formula 1.
There's still people out there that think Mercedes are sandbagging...
Not sure Baku is going to improve things much, but my god if that wasn't proof that Monaco should not be on the championship calender I don't know what is.

Re: Formula 1.
Monaco should remain on the calendar. The only people who would miss it are the spectators. The drivers love it, it is a huge challenge to all the teams, and everyone connected to the sport looks forward to it. It plays but a very small part in the Championship, yet carries huge kudos for anyone taking part in it. A great part of Motor Sport History, and , yes, many years ago it cost me a small fortune to attend it [Jackie Stewart won], but I wouldn't have missed it, boring though it was. Practice and Qualifying are a large part of it's attraction, and everyone knows it can be a procession, but it isn't always.

Re: Formula 1.
It's the most boring race on the calendar - yes it has great history - but it is such a bore. Cars these days are too wide and long for any overtaking. Last time I checked, it should be about proper racing, overtakes, not just relying on the pit stops.
Re: Formula 1.
Possibly move Monaco to a better point in the calendar where rain is more likely..
Cameraless
Re: Formula 1.
But the fact remains that eveyrone , bar a few, want it to remain. That is indisputable!. It rained on Saturday morning, and it was raining there this morning.

Re: Formula 1.
BBC sport ran a poll during the race.
2,500 wanted it to stay.
12,500 wanted it to go.

Re: Formula 1.
Yet all the Grandstands, Hotels, Cruise ships that are full of people, viewing apartments for the race etc., are sold out way in advance, so it's quite obvious that one or spectators like it, as well all as the racing fraternity, so why should it not continue??

Re: Formula 1.
I enjoy the spectacle and it's the most prestigious race from the drivers point of view. The event captures what F1 should be all about - Glamour, money, danger and not forgetting the pretty girls and boys
The race has always been a bit of a procession and a war of attrition but modern cars are so reliable compared to twenty years ago. How did Senna win six times at Monte Carlo - the race of a thousand corners apparently?
If you like engine noise then have a listen to James Hunt's 3 litre 1974 Hesketh taking part in the 2021 Historic Monaco Grand Prix - https://youtu.be/7g1um9xusA0
