I enjoy the spectacle and it's the most prestigious race from the drivers point of view. The event captures what F1 should be all about - Glamour, money, danger and not forgetting the pretty girls and boys

The race has always been a bit of a procession and a war of attrition but modern cars are so reliable compared to twenty years ago. How did Senna win six times at Monte Carlo - the race of a thousand corners apparently?

If you like engine noise then have a listen to James Hunt's 3 litre 1974 Hesketh taking part in the 2021 Historic Monaco Grand Prix - https://youtu.be/7g1um9xusA0
I think you have summed it up perfectly slogen51
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

More relevant to us older fans; Max Mosley has died. He did a lot of good things for F.1. Private life perhaps not so good, but that was his affair. One of the Founders of March engineering, together with Coaker, Rees and Herd.[Who was one year ahead of me at Monmouth School]

Not Verstappen's fault, of course, Lewis, well!. Don't know why his brakes overheated so much, his lap behind the safety car was the same as everyone elses. He had no choice but to leave braking late on the first corner, otherwise he would be swallowed up by those behind. Poetic justice, I guess, neither top contender scoring. That's got those two 'non-normal' races out of the way. Let's see what happens at Paul Ricard!.

Apparently the 'magic' button was left on/switched on/self turned on inadvertently which meant the brake temps were through the roof by the time he got to turn 1. But yea, 25/26 potential points in the bin. Yet another turdshow by Mercedes in general.
Was a shame also that Leclerc couldn't get Gasly for P3, not a bad turn around for McLaren though after the first few laps were looking!

Bottas's days must be seriously numbered now... surely!

Bottas will stay. He sacrificed his grid position in order to improve Hamiltons. He is generally a very steady no. 2, very quick in qualifying as a rule, and rides shotgun for Lewis. The last thing Mercedes want next season is a repeat of the Rosberg versus Hamilton scenario, which they know they will not get with Bottas. Steady, reliable no.2 who usually performs well enough. It looks as Red Bull may have a problem if Perez keeps improving. Two bulls in one pen can only mean problems!!!.

His results so far this season say otherwise, ignoring Monaco. His performance today was less than stellar where ever he qualified. Also very interesting to look back at his results over the years he's been with Mercedes, not impressive at all. Plus if the rumours circulating are true, the decision has already been made.

With Red Bull yes you are correct. Having 2 drivers on equal terms can be less rewarding than 1, 2007 being a good example. But tbf, I don't see anyone ever getting the measure of Verstappen in the second Red Bull, that car is clearly built for him and obviously doesn't work so well for anyone else.

That makes it sound like he has a say in it. I suspect he'll be out on his heels, but only time will tell.

I think Russell will be in, and Bottas out ONLY if Lewis wins the Championship. If that happens, and it's a big if, and George proves to be as fast as Lewis, then it may prove difficult for Mercedes and Lewis, who want's the record eighth win. I think after that, Lewis will retire, knowing that record is unlikely to be broken in his lifetime [or mine] leaving the seat open for George, or, dare I say it, Theo Pourchare, who is going to be outstanding, and only 17 years old!!!!.

I think your thoughts are valid, but Hamilton isn't there to win just his 8th WDC, he's there to win every race and championship whilst he's still got it.

Bottas is currently bleeding points for Mercedes. Whilst I have always disagreed with red bulls conduct of consistently changing drivers that 'aren't good enough', keeping Bottas on at the moment isn't the best course of action.

And don't forget, some drivers excel in some categorises, yet fail to leave a mark once they meet the top (not always by their own doing mind). Think Albon, Giovanazzi, Gasly(at red bull), Hartley, Wehrlein.. the list goes on!

I agree Hartley never made it in F1, but his book about fly fishing was exceptional! :P

A quick check would reveal that both spellings are acceptable. I suppose being a shoe in (Russell) is better than being told to shoo off (Bottas)

Don't start, bad enough that some individual was trying to get a watchmaker twice his age to stop using his name...

Cracking job by Mercedes. Absolutely stunning. The both Championships will be easily won at this rate.

Good race IMO considering the circuit. Wrong choice of driver of the day, I feel there was some much more impressive drives from the midfield.

I get your sarcasm, Seven, BUT had the race been 5 miles shorter, then Mercedes would have won. Everyone will say their strategy was wrong, because they lost, but if they had won, their strategy would have been praised for being correct. There was VERY little in it! Good drive by Max, and Lewis is the master at tyre management, and it very nearly worked.
