Jupiter and Saturn

21:50 lovely view of Jupiter shining brightly in the SE sky. Also the unmistakable shape of Saturn is a couple of inches to the left.

Have these been visible for several weeks?
As I'd wondered what they were?

Yes, visible for weeks. You need to choose the right night to see all four moons though.

Great view this afternoon and tonight of the Jupiter - Saturn Conjunction. They basically appear close together low in the southern night sky. ( I just saw them at about 17:00)

They are worth a look even through a normal Spotters scope where both gas giants appear in the same view although they are over 400 million miles apart and Jupiter is about 550 million miles away ( Google)

According to the WWW it will be the closest conjunction since 1623 and the best view apparently since 1226!
