I suppose if you don't know, you don't know. But Cardiff in Scotland and how do you fit Cardiff to Dundonians? Sometimes I despair over the lack of general knowledge.

I know that it can't be easy for contestants on a quiz show and most will be incredibly nervous, but if they don't know an answer then just say 'pass' or 'don't know' instead of making a complete fool of themselves.

And he went to Aberystwyth Uni!

When did i move?

I do think a lot of the younger generation that go on the chase are completely ignorant on a lot of subjects. Example WW2 even I knew a lot about WW2 but wasn't born in that era, a lot are in a bubble with all the latest technology etc. The schools are to blame as well teaching them unimportant subjects which doesn't really matter, and lefty teachers don't like talking about WW2 as it's not pc!!

I don't know why a lot of the contestants enter these quiz shows because a lot seem to be lacking in basic general knowledge. Or is it I went to school in a different era and I was actually educated while I was there, and I certainly wasn't the best or brightest pupil there.

I have a theory that the TV producers have a budget for prize money. If they took on just those with good general knowledge and intelligence then they would blow that budget. So to mitigate the risk, they assess the applicants and take on a mix of capabilities.

They must all go through some sort of preliminary rounds before they get to the televised stages, so to put it simply...stupidity sells! If the contestants were all intelligent no one would watch. Same as X Factor and the other "talent" shows. There must be some who have genuine talent that turn up to the auditions, knowing they will be overlooked as T.V. companies want a percentage of dummies to keep the viewing figures up?

Schools don’t set the curriculum, the government mangles it from time to time.

Can’t remember the programme but one person thought that Wenlock and Mandeville were the names of Nick Clegg’s children...

One I remember from Tipping Point a couple of years ago :-

There was a question on the new “Beat the chasers” a few weeks back. It was something like, In 1920 French waiters went on strike for the right to do what. Of the 3 options it was quite obvious the answer was to grow facial hair, as the other two were obvious silly answers, with the 3rd being something like “the right to wear a stripy shirt and onions”. The contestant went for “stripy shirt and onions“!

On today's eggheads one contestant was asked what old weapon was a combined spear and battle axe?

They answered A) Trebuchet

If you watch The Chase a lot you see lots of dopey answers.

Always makes me laugh in the last round when they have the two minutes: i've seen questions of the type "What country in the UK would you find Mount Snowdon?" and a contestant bangs the buzzer and says pass!
You think 'well even if you don't know the answer, couldn't you have guessed?!'

Seems like there are enough people on this forum to make up a team on one of the shows they enjoy to reveal to us all their brilliance. I look forward to watching it
