That is just one of the old urban legends that are just not true. Apart from Roger the cabin boy, there were two or three others including Master Bates. I've had a conversation in our office more than once regarding the characters' names and we can never remember the correct ones! I guess The Governess (Anne H) had the same problem! Incidentally the actual cabin boy was called Tom in the series.

Entertainer Richard Digance was one of the people that perpetuated the myth of Cabin Boy Master Bates and he was was threatened with legal action as well. If you get the chance to go and see Richard Digance he does a wonderful show full of antidotes of his long career including many of the time he was on countdown.

Slight thread drift. My sister, who has no sense of humour whatsoever, saw a Richard Digance show 4 years ago and said she had never laughed so much in her life. 50 years ago, my wife and I hired Richard for a private party for £15!!!!. He had a folk group called Pisces in those days, with John O'connor and Tim Greenwood. He was ALWAYS destined for success even in those days. Hoping to see him in January in Bury St. Edmunds.

That was the now infamous episode with the 'Turkey Man'
He lost his head and just ended up answering turkey to about 3 questions on the trot in the final round. Hilarious!

I think it's always a laugh when the contestant says "Well Bradley / Ben ( other presenters are available ), I really don't know so I'll take an educated guess". How does that even begin to make sense ?

The urban legend game show response that has to top the list is the old “up the backside” gag, which was supposedly a response on the Mister and Missus game show.....or at least a version of it made somewhere on the globe....Zimbabwe is my favourite, as the wife says “ up the pop ole”

FFS, just spent 20 minutes watching Bradley Walsh corpse on 'The Chase' thanks to you lot...
To be fair, that was actually the funniest 20 minutes of the last 18 months so perhaps I should be thanking you instead of moaning (which seems to to be the national pastime of late)...
