Re: RIP Brexit
Now that would be fun
Re: RIP Brexit
In all honesty I admire PM May, although she was a remainer she at least has and did listen to the public and followed the Brexit path, not her fault you have other MP's that want to override democarcy just to have their 15mins of fame. Anyone that thought we would leave the EU initially smelling of roses more fool them.James Cutting wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2019 8:37 amDoesn't help when you have a PM who initially wanted to remain, trying to lead a country out of the EU.
I voted remain and probably would do again if given the chance.

Re: RIP Brexit
Agree there Thunder - personally dislike her, but with the s**t she has been given, and the "MP's" she is working with, she is doing well.
I would too, and I pray that we do not leave without a deal.

Re: RIP Brexit
Constitutionally, this is entirely wrong. In the UK, parliament is sovereign, not the people. The people cannot tell the MP's what to do. The only say you or I have is when we elect our MP. Once elected, that MP is free to vote as they wish. They can take heed of what their electorate want, but they don't have to.ChrisCwmbran wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2019 10:12 amIt shouldn't matter what MPs want. They have been told what to do.
If they don't do what the public do they are going to face an almighty political spanking and a swing to the right.
Yes the people voted to leave - but that isn't binding on any MP, or the Govt, or Parliament as a whole.
Re: RIP Brexit
and no one else would take her job on what a bunch of blinkered buffoons Nigel Farage gave the EU council some stick in no uncertain terms, do we really want to continue to be ruled ridiculed and insulted by that lot like MAY was??
Comfortably Numb

Understand that Malcolm, but believe that the almighty spanking will be forthcoming.

No. But we were told very clearly vocally and in writing that they would enact whatever we decided.Malcolm wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2019 9:14 pmConstitutionally, this is entirely wrong. Still if the Remoaner MPs carry on as they are they will a) cause their own deselection and b) cause politics in the UK to shift to the right. Then they might start to regret their actions.
Re: RIP Brexit
MP's and the public were told that the referendum was not binding. Yes, the Cameron Govt promised to implement the result, but we've had another election since then. Constitutionally, a future govt cannot be bound by the decisions of a previous one. Ergo, the May Govt cannot be bound by the promises of the Cameron Govt. The only valid argument here is that the current May/Conservative lead govt was elected on a manifesto which promised to implement BREXIT. However, the May/Conservative govt doesn't have a parliamentary majority so it cannot implement it's manifesto policies without the support of other parties (even if all Conservative MPs tow the party line).ChrisCwmbran wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2019 9:40 pmNo. But we were told very clearly vocally and in writing that they would enact whatever we decided.Malcolm wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2019 9:14 pmConstitutionally, this is entirely wrong. Perhaps. I personally doubt it, but it's possible. There are many seats where you could stick a red rosette on a donkey, and that donkey would be elected for the Labour MP. Same for safe Conservative and SNP seats. It's the 50 or so marginal seats that matter. If they go 'red' then Labour gets a 100 seat majority. If they go 'blue' then the conservatives get a 100 seat majority. If some third party pops up a 'steals' seats from one party, then the other party wins with a reduced majority, or you get a hung parliament.ChrisCwmbran wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2019 9:40 pmStill if the Remoaner MPs carry on as they are they will a) cause their own deselection and b) cause politics in the UK to shift to the right. Re: RIP Brexit
Time will tell. However I think for a good number of years now the political classes have told the population of the UK how tolerant and multicultural we are, and worked things in a way beneficial to themselves and their friends, and I think just maybe this has pushed the public too far.
I have a feeling at the next election the SNP are going to haemorrhage seats anyway.

Re: RIP Brexit
Why do the MPs protect only themselves not the public.Pity Parliament was not blown up all those years ago that would be one way to save money
Re: RIP Brexit
And even if Guy Fawkes succeeded. Do you think they would have sat around with white flags and given up?

Re: RIP Brexit
The trouble is under the stupid system we have, they know they are always going to be safe - in it only being between them and Labour (and vice-versa).ChrisCwmbran wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2019 10:12 amIt shouldn't matter what MPs want. They have been told what to do.

Look at the 2015 election when UKIP got 12% of the votes but only won one seat?!
If we had proportional representation then the two lead parties would have to start listening to their public more and do what they promised they would - with the danger that every vote really would count at the next election if they don't.
Re: RIP Brexit
They should shut the doors and not let them out until they sort out Brexit once and for all.

Re: RIP Brexit
On the contrary I think think Parliament should have a 3 week recess so we come out on the 29 March as per the current law and then we can all get on with day to day life.
