Re: Launch of Explorer at Cammel Lairds 12.20pm Sat 14th,July 18

Post by johnhowe » Sat Jul 07, 2018 3:25 pm

On Radio Mersey every Saturday morning at about 7.45am through to 8.00am Stuart Woods a retired Liverpool River Pilot informs his
listeners as what ships are expected/leaving at either Gladstone or Langton Docks and further field at Eastham or the Ship Canal.

This morning one of Radio Mersey presenters was standing in for Stuart Woods he mentioned the launch would be at 12.20pm.
Two ships visiting Liverpool in July 2018 are Royal Princess(Princess Cruises) Sun 16th, July and Queen Elizabeth on the 23rd July,2018.

The most important information was the launch of The "Explorer" and how it could only be viewed from either Albert Dock or
Otterspool on the Liverpool side of the Mersey and not Cammall Lairds.

Credits to all the photographers. All the Clippers are near the Mersey Bar at 06.10am Saturday 28th, July,2018.
awaiting to sail up the Mersey this morning to berth in Albert Dock. Tune into Radio Mersey this Saturday and every other Saturday at 7.45am and Listen to Stuart Woods retired Liverpool Pilot who gives his weekly
briefing as to what river traffic can be expected in the week ahead.

On Sunday the 29th, July, 2018 a very large container ship has been diverted from Felixstow to Liverpool
due to software issues, the vessel is to wide to enter any of the docks and will be berthed on the river berth.

If you managed to listen to Stuart Woods you will have learned that the clippers are due in at Canning Dock
at about 12.30pm or there abouts, Lots of Traffic. Royal Princess 330 mtrs length and as well as cargo some
oil tankers sailing in amongst the clippers.

Well would you adam & eve it! I decided to go to New Brighton early to get a parking spot. At 9.0am the 11 clippers were already in the river tacking into the stiff breeze all eleven were sailing close to The Royal
Princess which also arrived early they made a grand sight as they sailed down the Mersey.

Highlight of the Tanker Traffic was British Kestrel sailing after discharging at Tranmere Oil Terminal and
Nordrose which was inbound to Tranmere.

The highlight of the cargo vessels was Maersk Nijmegen registered in Hong Kong.

I thought that because I had downloaded all the participants on j-pegs showing all the photos that this was sufficient for this thread to be on the photography section, although the clipper race had generated a lot of
interest in the Merseyside area had not seen any other photos posted on he Photography Section.
