Don't know about Sony but Samsung phones have things like that app already installed.
If you go into "settings" then look for something like "device maintenance" you may find something there to do what that app will.
The heat is probably a combination of battery draining and screen brightness.

I suspect that the games you have downloaded place a greater demand on the microprocessor inside the phone than anything you have run before, this in turn will:
1) Cause it to generate more heat.
2) Drain the battery quicker.
! and 2 will not happen if you don't play the games, simply downloading and not starting the games should have no effect on points 1 and 2 above.
