Formula 1 2022
Re: Formula 1 2022
Actually rooting for Seb today. I do believe if he makes it to the end we'll get some donuts, Alonso says he'll join in to. F2 showed how to do a donut properly today, F1 cars seem to struggle these days, assume its to do with the hybrid engines. Congrats to Felipe Drugovich.

Re: Formula 1 2022
Never thought I'd say it, but I am going to miss him. As has been said, F1 is losing a good one in Vettel.
Unfortunately I think it'll be a dull race. The fastest cars already at the front, and despite them being asked continuously if Perez is going to be helped, he doesn't need it, all he's got to do is finish ahead of Leclerc (in the points).
I can't see Merc beating Ferrari here unless Ferrari do what Ferrari do..

Oh well, boring end to the season. Well done Max. I'm sure the casuals will pop up later when they've watched the ch 4 highlights. Can't believe we won't have Danny Ric next year. 24 races next year, can't wait.

Re: Formula 1 2022
Indeed, Abu Dhabi is a terrible choice to end the season. A power sensitive track at a time when all engines are being run on reduced output to save life... Still as long as the money comes in eh?
Good job by Ferrari to beat Perez for P2 in the race and drivers championship.
Can't remember much else other than that.
Not sure we'll get 24 races next year, as China is still running the 'zero covid' policy, which AFAIK means the team personnel can't enter without unrealistic restrictions.
Alot of 'glad to see the end of the W13', has no one thought the W14 might be worse...

Re: Formula 1 2022
That's 2022 done then. Some excitement, lots of bitter acrimony, some awful driving, and some excellent performances. Hard to believe that Lewis had the only Mercedes retirement of the season. What reliability!!. Engine is great, just need a faster car........... Been entertaining tho! It was typical of Lewis to arrange SB'S farewell dinner for all the drivers. Great move. Cost him $140,0000 tho'. Yes, I know he can afford it, but it was his gesture. Was he the only driver to visit the kids in the Favellas in Sao Paulo??. I suspect so. Good on him.
Re: Formula 1 2022
Not heard if the retirement was due to damage caused by the first lap incident yet, but if that is the case, then it's close to bulletproof reliability from Mercedes. As both others we due to damage sustained in first lap crashes!
Also was mentioned earlier that Hamilton didn't actually pay this time, but forget who it was they were talking to at the time!
Also must add, the guard of honour for Vettel before the start was a nice touch.

Re: Formula 1 2022
Must admit, was gutted Mick was told to stop doing donuts. Really felt for him. Steiner is another nasty Principal and becoming an awful outfit like RB. Hulkenberg?? That's laughable.
Not the best race, still wished they finished on a circuit like Interlagos. Happy for Leclerc, let's hope Ferrari close that gap and hire a new head of strategy for 23

Re: Formula 1 2022
Indeed, though tbf it's a team on a low budget, and he does have a tendency to put the car in the wall. Not a good combination.

Yes a record breaking 15 wins but how many races in a season compared to years gone by? I think if there was that many races back when Schumacher, Prost or Senna were around Max wouldn't even get close to them.
Why shame about Hamilton? Still a 7 time world champion or did you forget that?

Re: Formula 1 2022
Whether you like it or not, officially, he is a 2-time world champion, with a record-breaking 15 wins in 1 season.
Could say the same about lap records couldn't you, "Yeah but the cars are quicker now" it's just a silly argument.
Every champion has had a very dubious past at certain points, none of them are perfect. Move on to 2023 now.

Re: Formula 1 2022
It's all in the history books now, it may be a longer season but my god it's boring. IMHO.
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!
Re: Formula 1 2022
Agree, Pune, but it is what it is,and much better than the future Electric F.1 that will eventually come. Much more of a technical exercise now, but better than having nothing to watch on a weekend.

Re: Formula 1 2022
I am pleased Max won fair and square this time around
I watch/listen to F1 for the stories and political intrigue - I think it's great that a team other than the silver arrows are winning.
There are plenty of other styles of motor sport for the purists

Re: Formula 1 2022
Slogen. You couldn't call yourself a 'purist' if you didn't watch F.1!!!. After 67 years of watching F.1, there have, of course been many changes. Everything in modern life is completely different from the old days, and Motorsport has had to evolve the same as everything else!!. I remember as a youngster watching in awe of my heroes coming through Woodcote at Silverstone 0n full opposite lock with smoke pouring from the outside rear tyre at 130 plus [Ronnie Peterson} with a solid earth bank to hit hard if you got it wrong. Cars sliding, utterly spectacular but so, so dangerous.' Safety nowadays is great, but not always guaranteed to end well. Circuits HAD to evolve to keep spectators as well as drivers safe. This is the F.1 of today, and I STILL am very appreciative of the skill [yes, including Max who is not my favourite] It's certainly more of a technical exercise than simply relying on the driver. I much prefer to watch on Television these days, despite once having attended 26 consecutive British Grand Prix and a good few Foreign ones, I 'm not sure whether I would go to the circuit these days even if I lived close to it. But, each to his own. The people who DO attend obviously feel it's worth it, but for us oldies????................

Re: Formula 1 2022
What? I don't call my self a purist or petrol head - that is exactly my point. I will listen on the radio ( I don't have sky) and have no intention of paying to watch on TV. As much as I admire Sir Lewis I was finding the inevitable stream of all conquering Merc victories quite monotonous so any other team was a breath of fresh air as far as I am concerned.
Re: Formula 1 2022
Slogen. Poor wording on my part. I didn't mean you personally. Should have said 'one couldn't call oneself a purist etc.,' Regards John.

Re: Formula 1 2022
We all make mistakes even Sir Lewis Hamilton
Rumours abound that Sergio might be sacked and Ricciardo set to be RB second driver? I would have thought Sergio makes an Ideal team mate for max - not too fast, tame but good enough to secure good constructor points.
