5live is brilliant, free and you can be out and about rather than glued to a screen - I like F1 but I certainly won't pay to watch it unless I am there and the tickets in the UK are mega bucks. A bucket list item was to go to Monza and do a bit of spotting during the trip but I don't suppose that will happen now.

I don't think the WW2 metaphor works for me as that is only a single outcome - Merc as we know won seven seasons on the trot. Perhaps not dominant in your eyes but they seemed to dominate the sport to mine; but if not dominant then 7 world titles back to back was a little monotonous which is fatal to a spectator sport.

I think Hamilton himself was concerned at the 'dominance' of mercedes in that V6 era as he perceived it undermined his achievements - ' it's the car not the driver'. Max has the same issue but he faces it head on and often says we/I have the fastest car, he said as much when starting from sixth to win his 8th straight victory at Spa - we have the best car etc . Of course he has to say that because it's blindingly obvious but a few years ago Mercedes would say it's been a struggle to win , Ferrari have a quicker car etc but I always felt they were 'sand bagging ' - the Mercedes was the better car backed by one of the world's largest companies and driven by the best driver.

Although Hamilton narrowly won with McLaren I wish he had won a couple of titles with other teams but that rarely happens especially now because in the last 15 years two teams have dominated F1.

I always listened to the 5 Live Podcasts in the car, not so good now Mr Jack 'Touchy touchy' Nicholls got the boot. Who does the race commentary now?

Don't know their names unfortunately - I would probably recognize them if jogged

They paint a good picture and usually have an ex driver as the expert - Joylon? Palmer

Radio can be less reverent than their TV cousins especially when assigning blame for driver errors

Saw an interesting stat yesterday, most overtakes this year Perez and Russell take top two spots with 59 and 36 respectively, they've both under performed in qualy so makes sense. Then Max in 3rd place with 27! guess that's down to Saudi and Baku.

Also after 12 races Max has only been on pole for 7 of them, see it's not as bad as it seems.

Also also Max's winning margins...
Bahrain 12s
Saudi 2nd
Max 0.2s
Baku 2nd
Miami 5s
Monaco 22s
Spain 24s
Canada 10s
Austria 5s
British 4s
Hungary 33s
Spa 22s

See it's quite close really, all to play for in the 2nd half of the season :)
If you had 3 wishes for the second half what would you go for? Mine are......

1 - Someone, anyone, who's not in a red Bull to win a race
2 - Hulk to get a podium
3 - Danny Ric to smash it and swap places with Perez for '24

I go out and about and still see the F1 its called 21st Century technology or in other words Sky TV Go.

Daft question, if the coverage was free then the funds wouldn't filter down to the poor drivers.

The teams should be earning money from sponsorship through advertising in which case free to air would give the sponsors even more exposure.

I have heard of sky go as it happens and have watched sport on a mobile phone on occasion but the radio is king for me particularly as I am out driving or spotting a lot.

People watch too much TV especially with the now ubiquitous mobile phones and tablets.

Massa steps up legal challenge over lost 2008 F1 world title
Felipe Massa has stepped up his legal battle over losing the 2008 Formula 1 world championship by sending a letter to the FIA and F1 laying out the details of his impending claim.

April, Massa signalled his intention to take legal action against the results of the 2008 F1 world championship, which he lost to McLaren's Lewis Hamilton by a single point.

Massa acted on information from former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone, who suggested that knowledge of the controversial 2008 Singapore GP 'crashgate' was available early enough for action to be taken before the result of the championship was made final.

In March, Ecclestone was quoted in an interview by F1-insider saying the result of the Singapore race, in which Nelson Piquet Jr deliberately crashed to help Renault team-mate Fernando Alonso win, could have been thrown out, which would have swung the title race in favour of the Ferrari driver.

And Hamilton could do the same regarding the penalty at the 2008 Belgian GP.. and 2021 while he's at it.
Also, the correct action to take would be to disqualify Renault and both drivers from the Singapore race results, thus giving Hamilton more points. So....
At the end of the day, if he and Ferrari hadn't effed up his pitstop, he'd be 2008 WDC.

Doubt it will come to anything, the stewards are so inconsistent with penalties that the outcome of so many races could be challenged at the end of each season. Incident took place in Sept 2008 and Mr Piquet didn't start crying about it until he got the boot almost a year later, plus they needed time to investigate so I doubt we'd have had a conclusion before the end of the season in November.
It wouldn't be a good look for the sport if they changed a result 15 years after the event, through gritted teeth I don't even think it would be right if they changed the '21 result.
Couple of things I spotted whilst looking back, Piquet's departure in '09 ushered in the legend that is Romain Grosjean, although they didn't keep him for 2010 and DC scored his last ever points at the Singapore race in '08.
Can't believe the first race back from the summer break is Zandvoort so we get Max and all his adoring fans on a track that I think he could win at with 3 wheels on his car.

Probably be a Max Verstappen win again this weekend ,he’s on a monster run of form ….
Unless rain comes into play I can’t see anyone else challenging at the moment
The Ver/RB partnership is hugely impressive, hats off to anyone who can be this dominant…

Have you seen Max in the rain? Even if he mis-timed qualy and started from the back he'd probably win. It needs and accident or failure I would say. It's a shame really, witnessing absolute brilliance but the characters spoil it, apart from Sergio but he's gone a bit pants.
Great to see all the orange out for McLaren this weekend though :)

I don't acknowledge the existence of a 2016 F1 Season I'm afraid.

I've no idea, I've erased it from my mind, along with 2000, 01, 02, 03, 04, 10, 11, 12, 13. Still working on '21.
