The Ukraine Situation
Re: The Ukraine Situation
And more interesting reading from the Russian ministry of defence website.
On February 19, 2022, under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Cheif of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation VladimirPutin a planned exercise of the strategic deterrence forces was held, during which ballistic and cruise missiles were launched.
The forces and means of the Aerospace Forces, the Southern Military District, the Strategic Missile Forces, the Northern and Black Sea Fleets were involved in the exercise.
The Aerospace Forces successfully launched the Kinzhal hypersonic ballistic missiles.
Ships and submarines of the Northern Fleet and the Black Sea Fleet launched Caliber cruise missiles and Zirkon hypersonic missiles at sea and ground targets.
In the Astrakhan region, at the Kapustin Yar training ground, the Iskander ground-based cruise missile was launched.
From the position area of Plesetsk state test cosmodrome, Yars intercontinental ballistic missile was launched at the Kura training ground on Kamchatka Peninsula.
Air-launched cruise missiles fired from Tu-95MS long-range strategic missile carriers hit targets at the Pemboi and Kura training grounds.
From the waters of the Barents Sea, a strategic nuclear submarine cruiser Karelia of the Northern Fleet launched Sineva ballistic missile at target at the Kura training ground.
The exercise of the strategic deterrence forces was planned earlier, during which the readiness of the military command and control bodies, launch combat crews, crews of warships and strategic missile carriers to perform the assigned tasks, as well as the reliability of the weapons of strategic nuclear and non-nuclear forces, was checked.
The tasks envisaged during the training of the strategic deterrence forces were completed in full, all missiles hit their targets, confirming the specified characteristics.

Worth watching some of the live Russian news channels.
You may see how most of this is just western internet hysteria.

Russian news channels are under state control, I don't think anything you see on there will be unbiased. This is worth a read.

Re: The Ukraine Situation
I hate to be another one to keep harking back to history repeating itself..but it does feel like that right now.
A lot of talking in Munich hoping to keep the doors of diplomacy open.....while behind everyone's back the dictator scheming and plotting to rewrite the history books and redraw the geography of Europe to fulfill his own twisted views and paranoia.
Worrying times ahead especially if he also has visions of reclaiming some of the former Soviet states to 'right the wrongs' of the past.

Putin has been reading the history books
The Gleiwitz incident (German: Überfall auf den Sender Gleiwitz; Polish: Prowokacja gliwicka) was a false flag attack on the radio station Sender Gleiwitz in Gleiwitz (then Germany and today Gliwice in Poland) staged by Nazi Germany on the night of 31 August 1939.

Clever move if you're so inclined. Why invade a hostile country when you can fabricate friendly countries and move in as peacekeepers. I didn't really expect recognition of LHR/DPR although I had read about rumours of an invasion on the 22nd, plus the idea of supporting a coup and then moving in to support the new Russian-friendly government seemed more logical than a straight-up invasion (of course this hasn't happened yet).
Ultimately, a scummy move based on nationalistic/nostalgic wibble, will be interesting to see how bad the EU and USA's responses will be.

I've not verified these tweets as it's a biased source but it's mentioned American diplomats being evacuated to Poland, could explain the presence of RAGGY flight of two MC-130Js...

Re: The Ukraine Situation
Putin has formally recognised the two Russian-backed separatist-controlled regions in Ukraineslogen51 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 19, 2022 7:25 amAccording to BBC news it looks like Putin might use 'false flag' attacks on the separatist areas of Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine to launch an attack on the capital Kiev.
Earlier on Friday, in another sign of rising tensions, leaders of the two separatist areas announced an evacuation of residents, saying Ukraine had intensified shelling and was planning an attack. But the Ukraine denied any instances of shelling and said it is not planning any attacks on the separatist areas.
Denis Pushilin, head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR), announced the evacuation in a video purported to have been filmed on Friday. However, a BBC analysis of the metadata showed it was recorded two days ago, before the flare-up in hostilities.
The US estimates there are 169,000-190,000 Russian personnel massed in and near Ukraine, a figure that includes Russian-backed fighters in the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine.
This was the same tactic used by Putin to annexe the Crimea by destabilising the political area with false reports
Any attack on the Ukraine capital could be initiated from within the separatist areas giving Putin the excuse he needs.
He said he would send Russian troops to those regions - Luhansk and Donetsk and says those troops are there for peace keeping purposes

Re: The Ukraine Situation
Time to make the whole of Russia turn against Putin. Start with a ban on all Russian flights and overflights involving as many countries as possible. A total ban on any spares from Boeing and Airbus. A ban on Land Registry accepting purchases of UK property by Russian nationals. Closure of Russian banks in London. Cyber attacks on Russian energy and banking businesses. Flood the radiowaves with messages to Russian citizens telling them why we are retaliating to Putin’s warmongering.
That would be a starting package.
