I pray to whichever god(s) might listen that you are right about him not using nuclear weapons.

If the “Western Alliance” were to suggest that it would not reply to ICBM attack in kind but to use small yield tactical weapons on all production sites of gas and oil it might concentrate the minds of the Russian oligarchs.

As I see it, not many of the proletariat (?) in Russia with for more war, but good food, warm homes are more their wants and desires.

Peas in our tyme.

The Russian people are not stupid, as said they want some of the nicer things in life than they've had previously and the collapse of their hard earned rouble will not please Mr/Mrs average Russian. Maybe it's better to let this implode from the inside and see if they are prepared to accept Putin is doing it all on their behalf.

The reason why he will not use nuclear weapons is because wind changes could very easily blow any fallout into Russia!!!. Nuclear weapons are what keeps the majority of the world safe from a world war. It is my firm belief that he has shot himself in the foot [sadly not his head] over this power fever that he has always possessed.

As I see it he can't accept losing face, he's committed to this course of action and won't back down, he won't care what is destroyed or how many die. As far as he's concerned if he loses or is seen to lose then he's lost everything anyway, what does he care about anyone else? That's why the West has to tread carefully, he'll behave even more irrationally. As said above the hope has to be that the Russian people and those with money around him remove him when their livelihoods are are suffering and will suffer for an ever longer time.
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.

I reackon the Nuke decision has already been made, and if Ukraine isn't taken, there'll be something somewhere hit...

Putin obviously isn't well and is giving USSR part 2 one last go, if not, he's not going to live much longer and Lukashenko is more than happy to be Vlad part 2 and is only loving the prospect of possibly taking over.

It's all just play acting until Ukraine falls and if not, push the button.

Just as Trump would not be allowed to press the button on his own, I suspect that the same goes for Putin. Not everybody in both camps would be that insane to allow that to happen. I have been to both Russia [inside the Kremlin] and Kiev, and encountered perfectly sane people. I have never met more patriotic people than Ukrainians, however. Hope the talks go well today, though I doubt there will be any compromise on the Ukrainian's side, so sadly people will continue to die.....

Reports around that the EU have funded MiG-29s to be provided by Poland, Bulgaria and Slovakia for transfer to Ukraine. Interesting and good news if true.

Absolutely marvellous, never heard or read such good analysis of the situation ! Why do the BBC seem to employ correspondents that know nothing about military tactics or hardware but just report the obvious ? Surley a last years journalistic student could do just as good a job on a quarter of the salary. For example "Emma Vardy" in the cotpit of a RAF tanker refuelling Typhoons said that "after a refuel the fighter jets would all be able to use their radar's to look at the situation happening over Ukraine (may not be the exact words she used). Anyone on here worth his salt knows this is done by an AWAC aircraft. Her and other hacks lack of proffessional knowledge on military matters I find most annoying. I feel its an embarrassment to the BBC. I know there is a reluctance to use freelance reporters on the BBC these days ! Ex Flt Lieutenant John Nicholl is not everyone's cup of tea, but he can tell the difference between a fighter and a surveillance aircraft and is a much more creditable expert witness !
On a technical question note for all you avionics boy,s. It has been widely reported that the Russians use GPS interference tactics, especially around the Kremlin. So I must assume that they deploy such technologies on the battle field perhaps ? If so to be accurate, all cruise missiles must use inertial navigation only. Do cruise missiles use inertial navigation at all ? The same question may be asked of our Waddington drone control too? It occured to me that the missile that hit the Ukraine flats may have been out of control altogether ?
Anyway keep up the superb analysis as the BBC hacks may want to use it as advance training ?
"A Rhubarb" is a sortie of opportunity !

I'm with you on this. I absolutely believe that Putin is insane enough to give the order and we are totally reliant on some of the people around him not following through.

Just wondered if anyone else had seen the picture of the big agricultural woodburners that the Russians have moved in to theatre.Apparently they intend to use them as mobile cremetoria so morale at home is not upset by bodybags coming home and more importantly they can manipulate casualty figures easily.Must do wonders for the moral of troops who see them.

When Putin's lies are revealed to the Russian people, which they inevitably will be, he had better have a fast jet ready to disappear into the oblivion of Siberia, where, if it is winter, he hopefully will freeze to death, but not too quickly!!!.

As a parent, if my son didn’t return in a body bag and many of his colleagues too…

Mis-information perhaps?

Where did this nugget of information come from?
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

How about leasing some UAVs to Ukraine, with our advisers flying them over the 40 mile convoy, then have a Ukranian national fire the missiles?

'BREAKING

70 fighter jets have now been handed over to Ukrainian fighter pilots.

EU and Ukrainian parliament specifically cited:
- 28 MiG-29s from Poland
- 12 MiG-29s from Slovakia
- 16 MiG-29s from Bulgaria
- 14 Su-25s from Bulgaria

Source: http://rebrand.ly/n0fl2kp'

If thats true, thats about every MiG-29.in Europe! And leaves Slovakia without any air to air capability, and Bulgaria in the hands of a few MiG-21's..

Edit, I have not checked that link, do so at your own risk! ;)
