That's also fair enough, but I very much doubt that L.H. had either the time, or the knowledge. to look over his Accountants shoulders all the time!. Certainly didn't have the time to do that in my very modest business!!.Happy New Year. everyone, though I think 2022 will be much better!.

Totally agree.ChrisCwmbran wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 2:05 pmIn my view (not that anybody cares I'm sure) nobody should get an honour for doing something that has made them rich and/or allowed them to live a life of celebrity.
The only time such people should get honors is for things like charity work - stuff other than that which made them rich.

No doubt that he is/has been a skilled driver, all credit to that.
His chosen work has contributed a huge amount to the Global Warming situation. I can think of a whole hospital of people whose efforts over a ten year period deserve a thank you for just turning up to do their respective jobs.
A grumpy new year to most of you.

F.1 is very aware of it's effect on the environment. Petronas, who sponsor Mercedes do a huge amount of work to reduce carbon emissions, planting thousands and thousands of trees, spending millions on restoring coral reefs and other schemes. I would venture to suggest that International Football creates far more towards global warming than F.1, when one considers how many charter flights there are to all the European Championships, friendly matches in far flung continents, and big attendances at matches all over the continent on what seems to be every day of the week, with all the travel that these events generate. whereupon F.1 is a weekend event, over 8 months of the year. Obviously I am referring to a normal season, with normal crowds. Every large sporting event has a global warming factor, so perhaps we should stop them all??.

If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!
Re: ARISE SIR LEWIS!.
Hi, Pune. Last bit was flippant sarcasm.

Re: ARISE SIR LEWIS!.
If the knighthood is for driving the fastest car, then George Russell should get one too. Until Mercedes pit crew fouled up his pit stop, George was heading for a win in Lewis’s car, despite it not being fitted for his different shape.

Hi raptor9, yes I know, made me smile.
Cheers

Re: ARISE SIR LEWIS!.
Rugby Ref. Winning one race is not going to win you a Knighthood. Winning seven World Championships, some races in very equalizing conditions will and has, done the trick. plus Charity work etc.,2019, Ferrari were the fastest car, but they didn't win the Championship. Why was that??

Sorry Tescos
The German spotters go around in German army ponchos and water proof Gortex jackets and we use plastic bags and a handkerchief!
I don't have a problem with sir Lewis, I think he was more surprised than anybody - I met him once before he was famous in Woking.

Re: ARISE SIR LEWIS!.
So when did he become famous in Woking? Infamous may be a better word to describe him, arise Sir George Russell you proved that the car is the mitigating factor not the driver.

Re: ARISE SIR LEWIS!.
2008 - there was an electronic sign/billboard at the McLaren roundabout
It was big news and just the start for Lewis but in some ways the beginning of a nadir or trough for McLaren's fortunes

Re: ARISE SIR LEWIS!.
Plmc135. If the car is, which to some extent it obviously is, the mitigating factor, could you therefore enlighten us fans, some of whom have attended many G.Ps, here and abroad.and have been following F.1 since 1959, as to why Ferrari, who undoubtedly had the fastest car in 2019. failed to win the Championship that year. I'll tell you why. Their drivers made far too many mistakes, too many spins, too many collisions, and too much proving that your car gets damaged when it hits a barrier because they didn't drive it properly!!!.
Seem to remember that Hamilton had one harmless spin in the soaking wet German Grand Prix, where Bottas, [Mercedes] Leclerc, and Vettel,[ both Ferraris] and others ended up trying to change the shape of the scenery!!. No guess as to who won in terrible conditions. Perhaps he drove better than the others????????. Rain. Always the great equalizer. It sorts out those who drive very well, and those that don't. T'was ever thus.

Re: ARISE SIR LEWIS!.
You seem to think that I am not an F1 fan, hate to disappoint you but I too have been to a few Grand Prix dating back to the 70's.
However one of our best moments at Gatwick where I worked in the 70's was when Tradewinds were flying out the cars to long distance races, South and North America, South Africa and Japan in their CL-44's. It took just two aircraft to fly all the gear out in those days, probably about barely half a current 747 load.
The cars used to arrive and be parked by the freight building at LGW totally outside and uncovered; some of the cars looked mighty different on the return journey than on the outward. We also took the opportunity as they had no-one guarding them to take a seat. In those days it was definitely down to the driver, indeed you did not know who might win the next race, today it is patently obvious that it is the car/manufacturer that determines who wins.
