There is a rather lively storm starting to the south of me now, the clouds are incredibly dark.

Had another absolute belter of a storm fire up here at around 3am, and it continued right through to well past 6am! Two houses in the local area got hit quite badly, and sadly one family in Holland-on-Sea have been left homeless after their roof caught fire after lightning hit it.

A photographer captured this belter of a hit off of the Clacton coastline!...

We've had a few very heavy rain showers over the Colchester area today with the odd rumble of thunder... then blue skies & bright sunshine... then heavy rain and thunder again...
The wind hasn't been too bad at all, just a strong breeze to rustle the leaves on the trees... Phew!

Strange weather today!

The day started off with clear blue skies and a nice strong breeze coming in off the Thames Estuary, and it continued like that until around 13.30 when the clouds started to build up. The strong breeze suddenly dropped off, just like a fan had been switched off, and now there are thunderstorms rolling in off the sea one after the other :O .

Its been banging and crashing here since 05.30, and the storm is only just starting to move away! Lots of lightning in this one, but not too much rain with it.
The heat over the last couple have days has been really muggy to say the least, so hopefully this storm will freshen things up a bit?

Between 07.00 - 08.00 this morning the storm really picked up again and was directly overhead... Then the rain came, and it really did pi55 it down, just as I was walking to work  .

Time to dig this thread out again...

There were some lively storms passing through East Anglia today, we had a huge downpour in Colchester this morning at 07.00 onwards. Banging and crashing and flashing :thumb:. The sun broke through around 9am and then I could feel the humidity ramping up straight away, it has been a sticky day to say the least.

There have been several large storms passing along the Essex coastline during this afternoon, but none of them have ventured inland at the moment.

No work tomorrow, but at the RUH. In the afternoon, should at least make the drive home interesting.

We've just wasted an entire flyable day, on the strength of that forecast. The en-route TAFs all pointed towards a significant deterioration around midday with poor vis and embedded Cbs, but none of it came about.

Well that was a total none event, some heavy rain around 9pm, but other than that, nothing.

Yep, the forecasters ballsed that forecast up! The lightning data on metcheck was showing activity over the English channel & then it all suddenly fizzled out... and then metcheck's lightning data page crashed and was offline for last night and today!

There was a small bit of activity north of Ipswich, but that was it as far as I know.
