Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
I guess it travelled north east to south west over swindon, quieting down now here. A great show.
Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
Blitzortung (UK) keeps taking me to Tokyo for some reason, so I can't see the direction of travel.
The wind was westerly earlier, and I did see some activity earlier over S Wales, so we'll see what happens.

A good sound and light show around the Burford area for the past couple of hours. Now rumbling more distantly to south in the Fairford / Swindon direction.

Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
Great shots, could see and hear the storms from Trowbridge, but we missed out, no rain at all, it just slipped by.
Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
Great catch Sandra .... Like them all but the first shot really shows the power in these storms

Good stuff....
It was PVA initiated.
I was watching the cells light up nicely showing their full structure from the lightning 84 miles away. The cells fired up over Gloucester and headed SE and then spread over much of South Central England. I was watching lightning from the Devizes storm 60 miles away and from the Gloucester storms nearly 90 miles away all the way from down here in Mid Devon.

Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
Good band of rain; with thunder and lightning right now ~ across E Cambs and along the Norfolk / Suffolk border.
Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
Currently having an amazing rain storm in Chippenham.
Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
Due to high Theta-E values and a possible Spanish Plume event. Some are in for an electrifying night on Thursday into Friday morning followed by rather violent storms on Friday/Saturday afternoon.
Still difficult to pin down as the models change the locations every 6hrs so far. Won't know exactly until Thursday afternoon!

Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
Just wondering if any of you guys know if a river/estuary can affect the track of a storm?
I live just to the east of Colchester on the eastern side of the River Colne, and nearly every time a storm approaches from the south and south west directions it always seems to follow the course of the river and head straight up into Colchester. I am starting to think that there is some sort of air movement above the river which causes storms to do this, is this a possibility?
Also, I too hope to see some action at the end of the week. A storm just skirted us on Saturday night and went over Colcheter, so that was another one missed!
The last good crash bang I saw was a couple of years ago, when me and my Dad witnessed a night time C to G from about a mile away. This bolt of lightning came straight down and pulsed with what looked like diamond shapes stacked one on top of the other, obviously very quick, but that's what we saw and boy did that make a bang!!!

Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
Storm moving up from the south, can hear it, gonna be a lively hour or so ahead.

Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
Yep it's over cirencester now and some serious lightning moving towards Oxfordshire
Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
I can see it heading for me, towards Leamington Spa. Weather Radar shows a narrow band with some very heavy rain and significant lightning. Didn't need a radar to tell me that, using the mk1 eyeball!

Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
Had a storm pass just to the east of Colchester this morning, seemed to be quite active and moving quite rapidly... Another one which missed me
.
However, there are red warnings out again for severe storm activity late tonight into tomorrow morning, across many parts of the UK, hopefully a few will pop up over the Thames Estuary?

Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
well just a short storm. Was at one point thinking this was going to be a good one. Then it fizzled out quite quickly.
And my first time at shooting storms. Think I need to play about with the settings.

Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
Some absolutely fantastic lightning patterns across the sky out over the Thames Estuary tonight
.
At one point there were more than twenty flashes per minute, and it went on like that for a good half hour, making it a very active storm indeed. Strong gusts, but not much rain with it.
The storm has quietened down quite a bit now and has moved away inland to the north, but there looks to be more activity brewing up further out in the Thames Estuary again as I type this...
00:15hrs, it is still flashing away in the distance to the south. It looks to be very very distant at the moment though, but my guess is that this is probaly the storms which are over France at the moment.

Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
We had a very bad storm pass through sharston/manchester this morning it woke my girlfriend up and then woke me up at 3.10am never heard thunder that loud in the UK before. Last time I experienced thunder and lighting like that was in Las Vegas. The lighting last night was fork and the sky was constant flashes of lighting could still hear it upto a hour after very interesting.

Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
Been awake most of the night due to a huge thunderstorm which started at about 1230 and then carried on to 3.30, another one has just started so I have had the grand total of 2 hours sleep.
