Brexit - EU Poll
Re: Brexit - EU Poll
Rafael, what's that then?

Re: Brexit - EU Poll
Thanks for the back up............. My father taught me years ago that you can't argue with ignorance, so I decided on discretion being the better part of valour and left him to wallow in his imagined glory!lhrlima wrote:Sorry to enter the debate so late in the day, but just for the record: Heathrow Airport Holdings, owned by Ferrovial (Spain) 25%, Qatar Holdings 20%, Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec 12.62%, Government of Singapore Investment Corp 11.20%, Alinda Capital Partner 11.18%, China Investment Corp 10%, Universities Superannuation Scheme 10%KyleG wrote:I'll pick apart the two that I already know about.

Heathrow Airport (which I assume this extremely vague statement refers to) is owned by a British company with a Spanish parent company.beefsteak wrote:UK airports are owned by a Spanish company.
Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton Airports owned by ACS Airports, Ferrovial (Spain) Macquarie (Australia)
Gatwick, London City and Edinburgh Airports, Global Infrastructure Partners (USA)
Good old Stansted flies the UK flag, as it's owned by Manchester Airports Group, a Company owned by the 10 Boroughs of Greater Manchester!
Hope this helps!

Re: Brexit - EU Poll
Beefsteak,
Happy to help clarify things! For the record, when I joined the British Airports Authority 31 years ago, 7 major UK Airports were in public ownership. Even when we were privatised we were quite safe due to the Government having a 51% 'Golden Share'. Then along comes Tony Blair and at the stroke of a pen, some of our most important Ports and points of entry into the UK were in Spanish hands!
Whatever the outcome of this, it's madness to have our Ports in private ownership, given the current issues regarding migrants trying to enter the UK.
Regards,
Steve.

Big shock this morning for sure, but then again fighter control polls never lie

Re: Brexit - EU Poll
The pound dropped off a cliff.
We lost £350 billion from the economy - 40 years worth of EU membership fees and the greatest single loss from the UK economy since 1921.
Two parts of the UK are now pushing for independence referendums. (meaning the UK may not last much longer)
Stock markets in Japan were/are frozen, German and British markets are expected to drop by 10%.
But sure, celebrate...

OUT!
I wouldn't call approx 1.3 million vote difference out of 33.5 million votes(3.8%) a very clear majority. Let's hope apart from a short term financial upset. We made the right decision. On a separate note. I hope & maybe I'm just a little Cynical , the German & French Gov's don't have a knee jerk reaction & pull their participation from RIAT as as a slap on the wrist for the UK

Just announced "Dave" is to step down by October
Re: Brexit - EU Poll
Thank god its finally come. Am I the only one who is heartily sick and tired of all those who can see into the future and will use any means to make us agree with their viewpoint, even , heaven forbid lying.
It's over, put your stickers in your car, take your ball home, do whatever it takes to make you happy if you voted to stay
If you voted leave jump up and down, run for PM if you want, do whatever.
Cameron said we are not a nation of quitters, shows the mark of the man.
I am going out now into our beautiful countryside, it's sunny and a great day.
Keep happy, keep smiling, face the future with a positive outlook, we are ALL part of a great nation

@welshandy
In your post earlier (timed at 08.25) you have used the quotation application wrongly. You have attributed words to me which I never said. Perhaps less haste and more 'preview' from you, before you hit the 'submit' button, will be in order.
No hard feelings and said with respect.

Re: Brexit - EU Poll
When the FC poll was started, I ticked the "don't know" box, after months of monitoring the campaigns, I was none the wiser.
I voted to Leave in the end, I personally think we put more into the EU than we got back, we no longer had control of our laws and boarders, we have little influence in shaping the EU.
Headlines that the pound is at its lowest verses the dollar since 1985 only lasted about two hours, the current Dollar/Pound rate is about the same as it was in January this year.
it will be interesting now to see if the EU rallies together, or will other countries want to leave and the EU fall apart.

I was going to have a car sticker that said "Don't blame me - I voted leave", but now I'm going to get one that says "Don't blame me - I voted stay".

I am shocked that we are out!
At the same time it is what I voted for & my faith in democracy has been restored

I do believe you have just broken the forum rules by making a derogatory comment about Scotland and/or Scottish people. Where are the moderators when you need them.Bernie wrote:Kyules
Do you work for Cameron?
The £ has dropped in value, but isn't anywhere near where it has been in the past. In fact it seems to be recovering.
Same with the stock market, no where near as bad as it has been (I can remember the footsie being at 98, yes thats right, ninety eight!).
Both of those events where predictable, and the BofE is taking steps to mimimise the effects.
Irrespective of that, it is, like it or not the will of the people. Will it be the end of the world? No, no one thinks that, well other than you, the UK managed very well before the EU, and can again.
41 years of EU bungs? We should never have been paying them in the first place! The EU as a trading block was OK, and a State, it is never going to work. Artificial Countries very rarely do. Look at Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia...
Belgium doesn't work that well either!
As for 2 parts of the UK wanting out? Erm, no. An ex terrorist who's reason for being was Irish Union wants a referendum, and he seems to be the only one (ask if the Irish Rep want Ulster in reality. The second word's going to be off!)
As for Ms whatever variety of fish is currently running Jockland......Clue is in the title, SNP. They only exist for an independent Scotland, given the price of oil (through the floor!), the fact they would have to accept Shenngin, the Euro and pay for failing EU States might make the Scots electorate a little more sensible than Ms Haddock!
