If there are any little TankBusters, I'm sure they would be delighted to make a replacement.

I got up at 6am south east side of Coventry jct 3 M6 area and it was a nice calm morning,
set off for work into Birmingham Castle Brom jct 5 M6 and apart from a little shower we got nothing else.

the weather was very bad Friday till Saturday night with heavy rain and high winds.

The stormy winds which battered much of the country on Friday/Saturday was a deep low pressure system situated out near the Western Isles. It produced very strong gusts up to 70mph in the southern half of the country and Wales.
The St Jude Storm this morning was never going to create very stormy conditions for those situated north of the M4 due to its track. Strongest winds for this type of low is SW side and SE side, anywhere north and directly underneath the low centre will be nice and calm but in threat of torrential downpours.

I didn't expect to be digging this thread up in January, but...
We've just had one almighty thunderstorm here just to the East of Colchester. Lots of cloud to ground and horizontal hailstones motoring along at one hell of a speed! It's like a massive bead blaster out there...Ouch!!! What is our weather coming to?

And there's plenty more where that came from!

A decent bit of activity in Cambridge (and east of) this afternoon.

I was mildly annoyed at the heavy traffic trying to get across Cambridge around tea time when I came across a road closure and house fire; a lightning strike! (Perne Road; for anyone who knows the area).

Nature, .. beautiful and deadly.

Love a good electrical storm though!

It was a very intense squall line which affected most of England yesterday starting up near Liverpool and working its way down through Kent. One of the most damaging i've seen for a long time. So, not an individual storm, but a huge 200 mile wide line of storms with wicked gust fronts. Looked awesome on radar.

It looked awesome in the flesh to Rich, I was in Bangor in N Wales yesterday and got caught up in this storm, it seemed to follow me as I travelled back home eastbound on the A55 with some very close lightning strikes and the shockwave from thunder could be physically felt through the car, the rain whilst I was on the A55 was torrential. It was the best storm I've seen in N Wales for many years.

Possible Supercell (still being confirmed or not but looking likely) developed over my area (Tiverton, Devon) this afternoon with quite a bit of intense lightning and some of the heaviest prolonged rainfall we've had for a while turning the roads in to literally torrents of water. There was a time that the areas ENE of this storm could have seen a funnel or tornado touch down but no confirmed reports yet. It is very slow moving and is now passing south of Taunton towards Merryfield airfield. Although right now, going by radar it is looking less organised as it was over here. It could, however, re-organise further up towards Somerset/Wiltshire border if it doesn't fall apart before then.

Anyone downwind of this storm, can you please note the structure and take images if possible. It was almost impossible to take images during the event here due to the rainfall intensity but it looked impressive from the arse end which is what counts (SW side of the storm).

It should be heading ENE/E at this time. And it is pulsating in intensity, one minute it is showing torrential core and the next it is not then it will start all over again so obviously back building.

There are some good thunderstorms banging away over France at the moment & they slowly seem to be heading on a course that could bring them close to South East England later tonight.
The Met office has them on the UK forecast for later, so we might see some action?

Last nights storms seemed to fizzle out when they came across the English Channel & then moved out over the North Sea. Had lots of heavy rain last night, but no thunderstorm.

There was a huge storm cell to the west of Colchester around mid day today, I could see the flashing, but it was too far away to hear any thunder from it. The clouds were a menacing purple colour and the storm looked to be heading northwards along the Essex / Hertfordshire border, it was a monster!
