So Monaco can throw up an interesting result. It would be ironic if it did but then the mandatory two stops reset things to the usual order.

This is what I don’t understand. You could have 10 mandatory pit stops, but it doesn’t take away the fact that the cars are far too big for such a small circuit.

Was reading an article by an aerodynamicist:

He said the track is so twisty and slow, the car (specifically the front and rear wing) start to work against the driver because of insufficient airflow, would be better to take them off completely to save weight!!!

Didn't red bull consider building a completely different car within f1 regulations just for Monaco?

Monaco is history and tradition it's like the FA Cup

I like it

There used to be 16 races per season including Monaco nowadays we have 24 so there are still plenty of 'normal' races for people to enjoy

Car all run to the rules of minimum weight hence why they have to pick up all the marbles on the parade lap to help hitting the min weight,

No option to take bits off.

I can imagine to watch live at the event must be amazing but watching on TV is a bit of a parade isn't it.

Current BBC weather showing chance of rain Saturday which could mix up the pack for qualifying, That would help,

Yes it does at times....I wonder if that's what makes quali worth watching though, its so hard to overtake that your position is pretty much decided by two things:
1. those who qualify ahead of you
2. those who stuff it in the barriers at t1 or otherwise depending on which flag colour they prefer :P :pop:

I was there in '72 and I do believe Herr Marko was in the field, we got very wet as I remember, happy days.

Marko in a Yardley sponsored BRM I think, Not the same race as mine. Mine was in the dry and sunshine. Guess there are quite a lot of people on here who don't realise that he was an F.1 driver. He lost an eye when a stone went through his visor, which halted his career.

Jean-Pierre Beltoise was the winner in '72.. seems sooo long ago now.

They can take off what they want and add ballast to actually help balance the car so the weight's not an issue. They don't take off wings, I'm not sure if they are allowed to, because they still have an effect on the car. If it were the case that the wings were actually working against the driver they would just run a very low downforce set up like they do at the faster tracks. Whilst the corners are slow and as a result there's less air to push the car down the larger wings assist with this but they also help with breaking and stability under acceleration. We've seen cars lose wings at Monaco and trundle back to the pits at a much slower pace so taking them off just wouldn't work.

Beltoise was a lucky man. He was married to Francois Cevert's sister, who was a very beautiful lady. Looking forward to a good [and possibly exciting] week-end of racing. Don't forget Indy 500 on Sunday!!.

'twas last victory for the BRM marque; I was at Monza for their penultimate win in 1971 in, at that time, the quickest and shortest Grand Prix. Being on the inside of the circuit it was damn painful on the neck muscles.
The Italians went wild when Jackie Stewart passed us on the grass with a blown engine, but a couple of laps or so later both Ferraris disappeared and half the crowd went home before the end of the race. Check Wikipedia for the dash for the flag; a finish has never been so close with Peter Gethin scoring for 'my' team.

Wish I had made Monza!!. Had it booked with a flight on a B.707 for the day, but had to cancel with pressure of work. Sadly, Ronnie Petersen's crash occurred, so in a way I was glad to have missed it. Succeeded in making Watkins Glen, Montreal, Monaco, Zandvoort, Jarama for overseas G.P.s. Still fit to travel at 82 years, but I find T.V better these days. I well remember that closest finish!!!.

Of absolutely no importance to anyone, as a part of my engineering apprenticeship I spent two days hands-on in the workshops at Bourne. As a result was later a Gofer in race control at Silverstone. Few people can say that they have driven a tuned Minivan on the circuit, only part of it and Not on a race or practice day!
The building are still in use but no racing cars.

It IS of interest!. It's part of F.1 history!!. I remember their last driver, Larry Perkins, when asked how the car was when it was trying to qualify for a Brands Hatch G.P. he described it thus 'Lets see. It's slow up the hill, slow down the hill, slow on the straights, and slow in the corners....what's the word |I'm looking for? ah, slow!!!.'C.24. My wife drove a single seater in the wet at Silverstone for her 40th birthday, then a double decker bus the following day [not at Silverstone'!. In the single seater, she had a huge slide, well held, but I didn't have my video camera switched on at the time!!. The bruises have nearly disappeared 35 years later!!!.

Nope 7th September, did he mean the oval, although I don't think they were using that as late as '78?
